Virtue of the Month- Self Regulation
September 18 - 22
Please help us with our school wide goal on improving school attendance this year. Tardy's and early check outs count towards your child's attendance. We have already had 235 tardies this school year.
Good Afternoon Washington Families!
We will have Open House/Curriculum Night on Tuesday, September 26 from 5:00-6:30. This is a come and go event. During this event parents will get information about what your child will learn this year, curriculum that we use in Norman, see your child's classroom, and tour our school. You can stop by and meet our counselor, librarian, music, p.e., and soar teacher. Parent teacher conferences are coming up in October for you to have individual meetings with your child's teacher to visit about your child's progress or any concerns. If you are unable to attend our Open House/Curriculum Night we will send home information.
If the doors are closed on the north side please park and walk your child inside. The doors are locked all day on that side of the building.
School Store fundraiser envelope will be coming home on Monday. If you would like participate please return the envelope with the code. We will also be doing some other fundraiser this year through the school to help us purchase new walkie talkies and some other items to help with security. Thank you for all your support.
October is approaching fast. Don't forget to fill out the free and reduce form. If you need a paper copy please call the office and we will send one home. This form helps give our school more money to support our students and if you qualify it helps you save money on breakfast and lunch. More information is below.
Yearbooks & 5th Grade Ad's are available for purchase: (School code: 227540M)
- PLEASE don't drop off your student before 7:25 when staff gets outside. We have no supervision before 7:25. Our staff is not on contract until 7:25. Thank you for helping us keep your kids safe.
- Please stay in your car during drop off and pull up if you need to buckle your child. This helps our line move faster.
- Student cell phones should remain in backpacks and turned off. All smart watches must only be used as a watch during school hours. If a student is using their device for calls, texting, photos, videos or apps. during the school day, the device will be taken away and a parent must pick it up from the office.
- Please make sure your child covers their midriff and shorts are appropriate length.
- Please check with classroom teachers for food allergies before bringing birthday treats. You can drop the treats off in the office. We do ask parents not to send balloons or big bouquets to school. Dear Washington Parents:
The UGLY BUG CONTEST is here again. In the past we have had so many extraordinary bugs entered. Our school has won TWICE !! Kade Rhodes, who was in third grade, won last year. Our school got a very fancy microscope and 8x10 microscopic pictures of our bug.
Please think about getting outside and collecting the ugliest bug you can find. ( no spiders or scorpions...they are not insects) You will need an undamaged/dry specimen. These can be entered along with your written description of the bug you captured. BUGS ENTERED WITHOUT THE FORM AND WRITTEN DESCRIPTION WILL NOT BE ENTERED. We will choose a school winner and send that winner to the state competition. Please follow the links below for rules and to print an entry form.
You will have to print an entry form and submit it with the specimen. You can also view the poster from last year.
All entries are due to Mrs. Trumble by October 3rd.
4th and 5th Grade Coding Club

Players will be grouped in teams of 4 and will learn how to use a buzzer system to quickly answer questions. Washington’s Academic Team will be comprised of 4th and 5th graders. These students will meet in Mrs. Trumble’s room during their designated times. We will compete against other Norman elementary schools throughout the school year.Academic Team information

4th and 5th Grade Honor Choir
Honor Choir is a free after school choral music experience provided by Mrs. Lenington and Mrs. Arce to all Washington 4th and 5th grade students. No audition is required to join, just a love for music, singing, and a great attitude.
The choir meets after school on Tuesdays from 2:45 to 3:45 in Mr. Lenington's music room. Parents will need to make arrangements for their child to be picked up in the north school oval after choir rehearsals (unless your child is enrolled in Alphabest). All choir members must be picked up after choir no later than 3:50.
The choir will perform a Spring Concert on Thursday, May 9th in the Washington Gym at 7:00pm.
