PRINCIPAL'S PERSPECTIVE
Dear Parents,
Thomas Edison was one of the great inventors of his time. Thanks to him, we have the light bulb, the movie camera, the record player, to mention just a few. My favorite Thomas Edison quote is “I have not failed. I've just found ten thousand ways that won't work.” Afterall, invention is the process of having an idea in mind and then figuring out how to make it happen. It can take a long time to get it right but every time you fail, you learn something to assist you on the next try. It took four years before the Wright brothers were able to put a plane into the air. To this day, their method of reviewing data collected by testing aircraft and then refining the design based on their analysis, is still used in aerospace research. When you hear mention of design thinking and backward design, this is what we are talking about and it is the cornerstone of our school’s mission.
Next Friday, we will hold our first Innovation Showcase. It will be an opportunity for parents, students, and guests to interact with the incredible array of activities that we will have on display. This major event will provide you with a snapshot of what our school is all about. Whether you succeed the first time or the hundredth time or never at all, failure should be embraced as part of the learning process. And as many of us know, learning by doing is impactful.
FAST is all about creating a culture of innovation and building for the future. So let’s have some fun next Friday and embrace all the glitches and malfunctions which will occur not as errors but as opportunities to grow from.
Kudos to Mr. Franklin for all the work that has gone into this showcase for being the driving force behind Innovation Showcase and to kudos to all of our students who are participating.
Sincerely,
Stan Beiner
Principal

HAPPENINGS
Innovation Showcase: April 1, 2022
The Innovation Showcase is just a week away and FAST is all abuzz about it. If you work in a tech company or start up and know someone who would be interested in seeing the work our students are doing, please let us know who they are so we can invite them for a VIP tour of the Showcase. Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions:
What is the Innovation Showcase?
The Innovation Showcase is a culmination of various projects worked on throughout the year by students across grade levels. There are entrepreneurial projects, a cardboard carnival, coding demonstrations, philanthropic projects, and a look at the projects from our FCS Tech Fair winners.
When is the Innovation Showcase?
Friday, April 1 9am-12pm
Will this be in person?
Yes! We are so excited to have this event in person.
Can parents attend?
Yes! All of our FAST parents are invited to attend.
Who else can attend?
Anyone you want to bring! We welcome the opportunity to show off our students’ work!
What time can visitors attend?
It is recommended that parents attend during the same timeframe that their child attends so you can visit together. If you aren’t sure when your student is scheduled to attend, check out this schedule.
Where can I park?
We are working on a location for parking. Please keep an eye out for an announcement closer to the event.
How can I help?
There are a few ways you can help! Here are several philanthropic projects presented at the Showcase that you can support.
Do you have a bike that needs repairs? See details and sign up here - all proceeds go to charity.
Do you have things around the house that you want to get rid of? Donate them to the yard sale! Complete this form to find out if they can accept your donation - all proceeds from the sale go to charity.
Pre-order food to enjoy during the Showcase here. Proceeds go to charity. (There will be no cash sales during the event, pre-orders only!)
College and Career Week
Women’s History Month
Throughout March, we have been celebrating women's history. On Friday, 5th-8th grade student volunteers presented a walk through of Georgia women of achievement. Students had the opportunity to “meet” these historic women and complete a scavenger hunt based on what they learned. Our younger students were particularly captivated listening to our student middle school leaders tell their story.
Daffodil Project
Students visited the daffodil garden throughout this past week. These visits and corresponding lessons bring an opportunity for students to learn a little history in conjunction with compassion and empathy. Our students visited these blooming flowers on spring days posing a visual that is a stark contrast to the past and present atrocities brought upon children that inspired the project t. And we all know, if we don’t learn from history, we are destined to repeat it.
