PHS Upcoming Events

Week of October 28th, 2019

Dear PHS Families,

Welcome Mr. Weakfall! At the Board of Education meeting earlier this week, Mr. Austin Weakfall was appointed as our new high school Social Studies teacher. Mr. Weakfall currently teaches at Heuvelton Central Schools and previously taught at Canton High School. He will start at PHS on November 25th and will be teaching United States History, Government, and Economics. Thanks to Mrs. Kristie Phippen and Dr. Robert Vadas for serving on the Advisory Hiring Committee.

Next Friday, November 1st, marks the end of the first Quarter of the 2019-20 school year. On November 13th, all PHS students will dismiss at 10:40 am for Parent-Teacher Conferences/Report Card Pick-up. Teachers will be available to conference with parents in the gymnasium from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm and 5:30 -7:00 pm.

Online registration is now taking place for the winter sports season. The registration site can be accessed using the button below. You can also contact Mr. Wilson, our Athletic Director, at with any questions.

There will be a pre-licensing course also known as “the 5-hour course,” on October 28th & 29th from 7:00 - 9:30 pm both nights. This is a DMV-designed classroom course that provides new drivers with information to help them drive safely. New drivers must complete this course (or a New York State approved Driver Education Course) before they can schedule their driving test for their driver’s license. To register, bring $40.00 and a valid driver’s permit to the main office.

The Volunteer Transportation Center will be hosting their inaugural North Country Mac & Cheese Cook-off on Saturday, November 9th, at Clarkson’s Cheel Arena. They are currently looking for teams to participate. All entries need to be prepared in a DOH-approved kitchen before the event. If your organization doesn’t have access to one, they are contracting with Potsdam Central School, which will provide kitchen space the day before. Please use the button below for more information.

The Red Cross and PHS National Honor Society will be conducting a blood drive in the Blue Gym on Wednesday, November 13th from Noon - 6 p.m. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are always welcome. All presenting donors will receive a free Red Cross phone holder. If your blood type is O Negative, O Positive, A Negative, or B Negative, please consider a Power Red Cell donation. You can schedule an appointment by going to and typing 13676 in the Zip/Sponsor Code box and then selecting “Potsdam High School.”

The Potsdam Booster Club has begun their annual Blue & Orange Discount Card sale. Cards cost $10 each and can be purchased from any fall sport athlete or from the main office at the high school. You can also contact Mr. Wilson ( directly for purchases. Thank you for your support of the Potsdam Athletic Program.

Athletics are in full swing; you can keep up to date on Potsdam team practices and games using the Section X Calendar. You also have the option of subscribing to the calendar and getting regular reminders and updates.

Can't make it to the game? All Potsdam Modified, JV, and Varsity athletic contests scheduled for the turf field or the high school gym are available through live video stream or video on demand on the NFHS Network. A subscription is required to watch the live stream or the VOD can be viewed for free a short time after the conclusion of the contest. The PHS Library is open Monday through Thursday each week from 2:15 to 4:00 pm for any students to get extra help on homework, to work on a group project, or just to take advantage of a quiet space.
