Opportunities for Parents and Students
Holiday Help
Toys for Tots has an abundance of toys this year and would like to help more families. If you know of any families that missed the Youth Assistance deadline and are in need, or maybe you know of families that just don't like to ask for assistance, they can contact Debbie at 248-328-0490 extension 215, until Tuesday, December 22. They have items for all ages. The requirements are very similar to the Jacobson/Quinn requirements.
Parent Workshop
Reminder...on January 28, Oakland Schools is offering a free workshop called "Emotionally Literate Learners" for parents. Check out this link for more information.Flint School of Performing Arts
The Roy and Elena Lahring Music Fund of the Community Foundation of greater Flint is accepting applications for Holly students (grades 1-12) to study instrumental music at the Flint School of Performing Arts. Students may apply to take instrumental music lessons or classes (voice lessons are not eligible). Click the link for the application.
Connecting With The Habits
Habit # 4 Think Win Win: Today at Habit Huddle Mr. DeSana showed students two pictures. One was of a group of Holly Firefighters and Community members, the other was of a Holly family (Dad is a Holly Firefighter) standing around a tree with presents. Students talked about what the pictures might represent. In the end, students decided that the Firefighter/Community Members were giving presents to the Holly Family.
Mr. DeSana let the students know "that was correct." Dad has a serious illness and the Holly Community Members/Firefighters were helping the Family have a nice Christmas. Students thought this was a Win-Win because the givers felt good about helping others and the Family was happy because they would have a good Holiday for their kids. Also, the Holiday season is a time for "extra" kindness and helping others is a good way to be kind.
