Pirates of the Month

Congratulations to our Pirates of the Month! Our first recipient, pictured below with his family, is fifth-grader Kingston Sapa. One of Kingston's teachers, Ms. Heath, had this to say about Kingston, "Kingston is such a joy to teach! All of his teachers would agree that he has a smile that lights up a room, even under his mask! Kingston never hesitates to go above and beyond in all that he does. He is a great friend and has a kind heart. He will be truly missed when he goes to middle school!".

Our second recipient is fifth-grader Olivia Rodriguez, pictured below with her family. One of Olivia's teachers, Emily Matchett, had this to say about her, "Olivia exemplifies the definition of being a good pirate every single day. She was one of my original virtual students and she followed Pirate Code and represented North Elementary amazingly in those challenging times. Olivia is incredibly bright and self-sufficient but is still able to ask for guidance when she is unsure of anything. Her classmates have nothing but amazing things to say about her and I could not be more proud to award Olivia with this Pirate of the Month award."

Lubbock-Cooper Cares

In January, North Elementary was challenged to help "fill the buckets" of our local frontline Covid healthcare providers. So we started an "adopt a frontline healthcare provider" initiative, where our students and staff thought of ways they could help lift up these workers and provide a ray of sunshine into their lives. Each classroom and various staff were assigned one healthcare provider, which totaled over 50.

Our students and staff really took this initiative and ran with it, sending heartfelt letters of encouragement, goodie bags filled with treats, and creating videos showing thanks!

Below is a picture of North students getting the goodie bags ready for delivery to the healthcare providers.

Cystic Fibrosis Coin Fundraiser

North Families,

North Elementary Student Council is hosting a Cystic Fibrosis coin fundraiser from March 1 - March 5. Each student will be sent home with a way to collect coins as well as an information page. The class that raises the most money will win a pizza party and cupcakes. 2nd and 3rd place will get a cupcake party. Each day, Student Council will come by and pick up coins collected and announce totals donated each morning.

1 in every 35 people is a symptomless carrier, so even if you don't know of someone personally that has Cystic Fibrosis, you or someone you know could be a carrier. Your coins will help those with Cystic Fibrosis that need life-saving treatments. Every penny helps!

The website for the CF Foundation is Also, here is a BrainPOP video that has helpful information as well.

Read the story below about one of North Elementary's fabulous students, first-grader Breelyn Cole!

Flashback Friday

Each month, students will participate in a day filled with engaging, quick review/pre-teach of concepts that data shows to be difficult for students to master. The day will allow students to rotate through many teachers so they are hearing and learning from other educators. Contents covered: math, reading, writing, science.

Please watch the video below to see what our amazing teachers have to say about the benefits of Flashback Friday, and to see it in action!
