New Eyes, Open Hearts, Able Hands: Grow—Connect—Serve
Message from the Co-Moderators
During our walks, we breathe in the crisp fall air which reminds us that a new season is here! Let us look with “New Eyes” to our involvement in PW as we seek to deepen our connections, open our hearts and minds to God’s Word and the Holy Spirit’s invitations, offer our gifts in service and hospitality.
We look forward to furthering our understanding of celebrating the Sabbath and to our stage groups beginning to meet this month. Our Mission sewists and book club members are active in their pursuits. The Advent Committee is abuzz with implementing fresh, creative ways to celebrate God’s light in the darkness. Your PW Board is discussing ideas for engagement in meaningful ways as the year progresses and we welcome any of your ideas.
We leave you with this scripture from Psalm 51:10: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” As we prayerfully consider our relationship with God individually and as the women of Village Church, let us notice ways we might share in this holy sisterhood. It is our hope that you find opportunities to be a leader, to connect with others, to grow in your faith, to serve others.
With excitement and gratitude,
Cindy Henderson and Susan Satterlee

"Circle of the Month" - Circle 4
This month, we would like to feature Circle 4 as our "Circle of the Month." Circle 4 is going to meet in the evenings this season to serve more women who work during the day. Additionally, the group has adopted a nickname — Horseshoe 4 — because horseshoes are more open and welcoming than circles. "We love having new ladies join us — for the short- or long-term," said Michelle O'Neal, co-leader.
Co-Leaders: Michelle O’Neal, Kim Lorenzen, Laura Langdon
Site: Shelby Krumm's home at 3208 W. 92nd Street in Leawood.
Time: The group gathers at 6:30 p.m., with the program starting at 7:00 p.m.
Following is their year-long schedule.
From the Advent Celebration Committee
Please mark your calendars. All in our community, who identify as women, are invited to Village Church for its annual Advent Celebration. "Women. Together. In LIGHT" will be held on Tuesday, December 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary at Village on Mission. Additional information will be provided in the coming weeks.

PW Treasurer's Corner
THANK OFFERINGS -- collected in October/November -- is a "thank offering to her Lord." It has continued to be an important part of women's giving by Presbyterian Women. One third is used to support medical mission throughout the world. The balance is used for new, creative areas of mission. Specific projects are selected by the Creative Ministries Offering Committee from project proposals submitted. If you wish to donate, it can be done during circle meetings or now online at the STORE. The link to the store is https://pw.villagepres.org/village-presbyterian-women. Last year we donated $750. Thank you!

Women of Wisdom (WOW) Resume Activities with Lunch on October 13
Women of Wisdom, (WOW) is thrilled to announce that, after 30 months, we are resuming our lunches and other activities. We will begin by meeting for a noon lunch on Thursday, October 13, at Bravo! Italian Kitchen, 5005 W. 117th St. in the Town Center Plaza in Leawood.
Bravo is an upscale-casual Italian chain serving pasta, grilled dishes and pizza amid Roman-ruin decor. They provide a combination of great food, a great atmosphere and great service, which makes it the perfect place for our eating together, resuming conversation, and renewing friendships.
Women of Wisdom extends a warm invitation to all ladies of PW to connect with WOW at the lunch table. RSVP by October 11 to Marvie Sneegas (sneegi@kc.rr.com) or 913-209-9608.
Amazing Graces Fall Gathering
We encourage you to engage with us at the Amazing Graces fall event on October 20. As we gather and enjoy warm hospitality at the lovely home of Jan Howard, everyone is welcome to come and learn about the newly established non-profit, Kansas Missouri Mental Health Collaborative.
As you know, Mental Health in our community is in crisis. Our speakers, co-founder and Academic Counselor Alice Carrott-Eidson, and Jen Wewers, Executive Director of the new collaborative will educate us about this inter-faith based initiative in the Kansas City community, and how it may help people find much needed care within the offices located inside their own houses of worship.
We hope to take advantage of the lovely fall weather for this outdoor event. Cost is $15/person which is payable at the door. Space is limited, please RSVP to lexalcarr@gmail.com by October 13.
Amazing Graces Book Club Selections for October and November 2022
The Amazing Graces Book Club will meet on October 5 to discuss Perestroika in Paris by Jane Smiley, and on November 2 to discuss Oh William! by Elizabeth Strout.
We’re happy to have you join us! We meet year round, usually on the first Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome (if fully vaccinated). We meet in homes, so please contact Sara Wallace to be added to the monthly email distribution.
Page Turners to Meet on October 25
On October 25, the Page Turners Book Group will discuss His Very Best: Jimmy Carter, A Life, by Jonathan Alter.
From one of America’s most-respected journalists and modern historians comes the first full-length biography of Jimmy Carter, the thirty-ninth president of the United States and Nobel Prize–winning humanitarian.
Jonathan Alter tells the epic story of an enigmatic man of faith and his improbable journey from barefoot boy to global icon. Alter paints an intimate and surprising portrait of the only president since Thomas Jefferson who can fairly be called a Renaissance Man, a complex figure — ridiculed and later revered — with a piercing intelligence, prickly intensity, and biting wit beneath the patented smile.
If you’d like to come just once for an introduction to the group, you are welcome. If you’ve been looking for a book discussion group, Page Turners may be just what you are looking for. We meet every month but December, when we don’t meet at all. Meetings are always on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. in Room 127. Visitors and new members are always welcome!
For more information please contact Barbara Lee (lhlee@att.net) or 217-891-3557, or Judy Lockett (judylocket5@gmail.com) or 913-385-2280.
New Book Club at Village on Antioch
The first quarterly Book Club at VoA met on Thursday, September 15. We were a bit concerned that the Chiefs game would impact attendance, but were thrilled with seven women who gathered. After an opening prayer and quick introductions, we discussed The Well Watered Woman for the next hour. The group included several women who are new to VoA, which was exciting for all of us.
Our next book to read and discuss is The Book of Longing by Sue Monk Kidd. Stay tuned for news on a date and location for our next gathering. This is a casual, interactive book club. Perfect attendance is not required! All PW members are welcome and encouraged to join as your schedule/interests allow.
Update from Tuesday Mission Sewing
One of our members, Connie, brought in 50 hand-knitted hats for the children at City Union Mission and Family Conservancy this week! She has been working on them all year. This is one of many projects that Mission Sewing focuses on during the year.
We are in need of fabric donations, especially upholstery fabric, and can uses pieces down to 1/2 yard. If you like to sew, at any skill level, come join us for fun and good conversation, on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., or especially in the afternoon from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Or if you like to knit or crochet, we have a number of projects you might help with, including lap blankets, scarves and hats.
We would welcome your contribution! Thanks.
