Function of the Nervous System

The Nervous System recognizes and coordinates the body's response to changes in its internal and external environments

Central Nervous System

A subdivision of the human nervous system comprising the brain and spinal cord. Transmits & receives messages to & from the nervous system

Major Parts

Brain & Spinal Cord

Peripheral Nervous System

A division of the nervous system consisting of all nerves that are not part of the brain or spinal cord.

Major Parts

Consists of all the nervoes, organs, muscles and glands other than the brain and spinal cord. Links the CNS to all other parts of the body

Cerebral Hemisphere- Right and left sides of the brain that kind of control different functions in the body.

Diencephalon - Link between cerebral hemispheres & link between the cerebrum and brain stem.

Brain Stem - Connection to spinal cord. Filters information between PMS and the rest of the brain.

Cerebellum - Control of balance and equilibrium.

Disorders in the Nervous System

Epilepsy is a nervous disorder, it is where the activity in the brain becomes disrupted and it causing seizures. Some symptoms of this are uncontrollable jerking movements of the arms and legs, temporary confusion, and or loss of consciousness or awareness.Some treatments are anti-seizure medication,epilepsy surgery, and therapies.

Alzheimer's disease destroys memory and other important mental functions. Some symptoms of this are loosing track, trouble finding the right words,depression,anxiety and more.Treatment for this are cholinesterase inhibitors,memantine, and exercise.
