Important Information
Gearing up for an awesome year!
AVID
Our goal for the 2017 - 2018 is to begin to implement aspects of AVID in our 5th grade classrooms (things such as the AVID binder and agenda planners, building upon WICOR strategies in our instruction and providing opportunities for exposure to post-secondary opportunities). In addition to this implementation, we hope to have a 3rd and 4th grade teacher pilot the AVID binder and agenda planner as well this year. Finally, we hope to raise post-secondary awareness throughout the entire building.
We will be building an AVID site-based team this year. It would be nice to have some representation from the lower grades on this team. Ideally, it would be nice to have one teacher from 5th grade, 4th grade, 3rd grade and one teacher from K - 2nd grade to serve on the site-based team. If you are interested in this, please let me know. I will offer "first dibs" for staff members who did attend Summer Institute this summer.
Please take a few minutes to watch the video below. This video provide some basic information about AVID, an overview of AVID's mission and some additional AVID information that will serve as a foundation for the work that we will do next week.

August Institute Days
This year's Teacher Institute Days will take place on August 14th and August 15th. I will share a more detailed agenda later this week. In the interim, please review the link below for the district agenda for August 15th Institute Day.
Classroom Set up reminders
I had an opportunity to walk around the building this morning and it is looking great! I know that there is still a lot to do, but I am so appreciative of all the work that you are putting into making classrooms welcoming to our students and ready for Preview Night next Monday.
As a reminder, garbage in your classroom still needs to be brought down to the dumpster at the end of the hallway on the 1st floor. Thank you for breaking down your boxes. Please be sure to drag those boxes to the cart on the 1st floor across from Steve's office.
Thank you for your help!
Preview Night
For those of you who were here last year, we scaled Preview Night back from years past. Our focus with Preview Night is providing an opportunity for families to visit the classrooms, meet the teachers and drop off any school supplies. Home & School members do have a presence in the building and will be asking parents to sign up for Great Art, order class shirt sizes and a few other housekeeping notes.
Home & School will be providing a dinner before Preview Night at 4pm in the Teacher's Lounge. I hope that you can join us!
Classroom Readers, Listeners, and Partners
As a reminder, the goal of this program is to develop a two-way relationship across generations.
