Blue Team Weekly Update
Week of 5/4-5/8
Classroom Happenings
ELA- Mrs. Camden
We made it through our 6th week of distance learning.
Assignments are posted to Google Classroom each day by 8:30 am. Please check there for instructions and work to complete.
This week we continued our Social Issues Unit with the novel Dear Martin.
Our lessons this week focused on power and we examined how power plays a role when relationship issues arise.
Everyone should be reading, and I did tell students that Dear Martin can count for their May book.
If you are having trouble finding access to other books, check out the library Google Classroom page or send Mrs. Tumminello a message. She has compiled a list of free resources. Mrs. Tumminello’s library Zoom meetings for 8th Grade are on Thursdays at 12:00pm. This is a change from when we started distance learning.
Scholastic has set up their system so books can ship directly to your house. If you use our class code M9G7W you will get books delivered, and I will still get the scholastic points to add books to my classroom library for next year when the library is closed.
The best way to contact me is by email. I prefer that parents use camden.stacy@wgmail.org and that students use camden.stacy@wgcloud.org
You can email anytime. My office hours are M-F 1-2pm. If you need to set up a Zoom
conference, please email me and we can set a time and date together.
Science- Mr. Vorel
This week students continued their study of waves. First, students used an online simulation to look at the effect of interference on a wave. They used the simulation to manipulate how different forms of interference would affect the amplitude and frequency of a wave. Then students connected their understanding of waves to the science of sight. They learned about the different parts of the eye and how they all work together to allow us to see. Next week students will investigate how we are able to hear. They will connect their understanding of waves to the science of sound. As part of this, they will be able to do a fun hearing challenge.
The best way to contact me is through email. Parents - please email me at vorel.adam@wgmail.org. Students - please email me at vorel.adam@wgcloud.org. I will hold “office hours” from 2-3 pm every day.
Please reach out with any questions/comments/concerns!
