Definition:
A characteristic of a substance that can be observed without changing the substance into something else.
examples of physical properties:
- Color
- Brittleness
- Length
- Freezing point
- Boiling point
- Melting point
PHYSICAL CHANGE
Definition
A change that alters the form of appearance of a substance but does not make the material into another substance.
examples of physical change:
- Ripping
- Cutting
- Melting
- Freezing
- Evaporating
- Boiling
- Breaking glass
- Dissolving
- Crushing a can
- Chopping wood
CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
Definition
A characteristic that is observed when a substance interacts with another substance.
Examples of chemical properties
- Flammability
- Odor
- Toxicity
- Rust
CHEMICAL CHANGE
Definition
A change in matter that produces new substances.
Examples of chemical changes
- Baking a cake
- Rotting bananas
- Exploding fireworks
- Grilling a burger
- Cooking an egg
