BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING - THURSDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2022

The next Board of Education Meeting will be on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. Board meetings will continue to be streamed live and can be accessed on the website prior to the start of the meeting at www.sbschools.org.


We welcome and invite anyone who would like to make a public comment at any of our Board of Education meetings to please attend the in-person meeting. Although not required, the Board requests that residents who are interested in speaking at a Board meeting register with the Board Secretary's office prior to the meeting by calling (732) 297-7800, extension 3110 or by emailing marcia.garitano@sbschools.org. Residents will be heard during the portion of the meeting designated for public comment.

DISTRICTWIDE BUDGET COMMITTEE UPDATE

As previously shared, all Districtwide Budget Committee meetings are being recorded and can be viewed on our district website under the Superintendent’s Corner entitled Districtwide Budget Committee Information. At this time, a recording of the November 16th meeting is now posted.

TEEN/PARENT DRIVER FORUM - MONDAY, DECEMBER 19TH

There will be a Teen/Parent Driver Forum entitled "Distracted Driving & Driving While Impaired" on Monday, December 19th at 7:00 p.m. at the South Brunswick High School for a discussion on teen distracted driving, driving under the influence of alcohol and other substances and the use of seat belts. This forum is sponsored by the South Brunswick Police Department and the South Brunswick Municipal Alliance and is part of Chief Raymond J. Hayducka's Traffic Safety Initiative, designed to address a recent increase in serious motor vehicle crashes statewide. RSVPs are requested, but not mandatory and can be made by emailing ARedfield@sbpdnj.net or calling 732-329-4000 extension 7469.

SBHS SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER WINS SECOND FULBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIP

The Social Studies Department at South Brunswick High School is excited to announce that Mrs. Samantha Saldanha-Kuncharam, a 20-year veteran of the district, is the recipient of a Fulbright scholarship in “Group Projects Abroad” from The College of New Jersey. Mrs. Saldanha-Kuncharam, who teaches both Global Studies and Advanced Placement Comparative Government, joins a distinguished group of teachers who will travel to Taiwan for the month of July for what will be a tremendous learning opportunity.


The program focuses on advancing core Taiwanese values, learning the language, and understanding key aspects of Taiwanese culture. The grant includes all living and travel expenses as well as excursions to numerous cultural sites.


Mrs. Saldanha-Kuncharam hopes to bring back firsthand knowledge and lived experience.

“When I return, I hope to first look at our curriculum to see where this information fits, then share my experiences and knowledge with my colleagues in a professional development setting” she said.


Mrs. Saldanha-Kuncharam was also the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship in 2006, when she traveled to India to study the effects of Globalization on the country.
