PAW Music Notes - Fall 2015

Music and Movement Class Notes from Mrs. Crystal

About PAW Music and Movement

Welcome to Preschool at Woodland (PAW)! I am Mrs. Crystal and direct the music and movement program. My daughter, Charlotte (1st grade), graduated from this preschool program and my son, Joshua, age 3.5, is currently in the Bears class with Mrs. Debbie/Ms. Christie. This is my second year teaching this program. Preschool at Woodland feels like family to me. I am sure over time you will agree!

We are SO BLESSED to have a music program where your child leaves the regular classroom setting and enters the world of music and movement for 20 minutes EVERY day they attend school. In addition to music and movement, the children will be performing for you twice a year in a Christmas and Easter program. We also do a super sweet graduation program at the end of the year. Since those programs are holiday-specific I thought I would use the newsletter setting to share with you some of the other elements of our music and movement curriculum this year.

The goals of the program align with the motto of the preschool. We want the children to DISCOVER 1) music is FUN 2) their voices are special (even if they never sing a tune all year!) and 3) the love of God and Jesus through music. Each child has the opportunity to participate in different ways. Some children will start out the year by simply listening and observing and others may jump right into moving and dancing. Either way they are participating and we know they are learning! We incorporate "instruments" like egg shakers, rhythm sticks, bells and other sensory tools and props such as ribbons and bubbles. We use age appropriate dramatic/silly play and storytelling also. This year the curriculum is organized by weekly themes and also ties into a Bible verse/songs. Below I highlight a few from this quarter. In October we will start adding Christmas songs in and in November we will start working on a Christmas program.

I thank you for the opportunity to teach your child to laugh, learn and love Jesus through our music and movement program and look forward to getting to know you all better!

Below you will find a sample of just a few of our music themes this year. Additional themes include Wild Animals, Things That Go!, Fall Festival Music, Weather and more!
