Principal's Newsletter

From the Desk of Russ Booth

August 22, 2022

Good morning MHS families. I hope you have all continued to enjoy your summer. We have been working diligently getting ready to welcome back students on September 6th. The past week has been exciting as we welcomed many students back to campus for extracurricular activities, and we are now just 2 short weeks from welcoming everyone back to campus.

As I said, we have been working on a variety of important things this summer, and there are a few updates I would like to share below.

Opening Day and Voting

The first day of school is scheduled for September 6th which is also a voting day.

Due to the presence of voters on campus, we will have limited parking on campus for senior students. Students who do not get a spot on campus will be directed to Memorial Park.

District Open House

The district is holding its annual Open House on Thursday, August 25th from 12:00-3:00PM. There will be a short welcoming presentation for incoming freshmen, transfer students, and their families at 12:00pm, and then all families are welcome to tour the building and ask questions to our student leaders who are volunteering for the day.

Summer Mailing and Schedule Update

Please be on the lookout for the MHS summer mailing being sent out at the end of the week. This mailing includes a variety of information including a welcome back letter from me, an emergency dismissal form, a student handbook signature page, as well as other pages that are grade specific.

Schedules will be distributed to all students on the first day of school in homeroom, with the exception of freshmen and transfer students who attend the District Open House. Freshmen and transfer students who attend the open house will receive their schedule after the presentation in the auditorium. Freshmen and transfer students who do not attend the open house will receive their schedules in homeroom on the first day of school along with the other students. Homeroom information for all students can be found on the emergency dismissal form (blue form) in the summer mailing.

School Council

Throughout the year I will be meeting with our school council. The school council consists of a variety of people including parents. This year MHS needs to fill three (3) open parent positions. I will be discussing this more in future newsletters, but if you are interested in serving on the MHS school council, please be on the lookout for an official request to run. More information to follow.

SAT and ACT

Attention seniors, if you are planning to take October SATs this fall, the regular registration deadline is September 2nd, and the late registration deadline is September 20th which includes a late fee. All registrations take place on the College Board website and you must be logged into your College Board account.

If you are planning to take October ACTs this fall, the regular registration deadline is September 16th, and the late registration deadline is September 30th which includes a late fee. All registrations take place on the ACT website and you must be logged into your ACT account.

For more information or questions, please contact our school counseling department.

Campus activity and extra-curriculars

As I said above, this past week many extra-curricular activities began! Our MHS Marching Band got started with their band camp, cheerleading was on campus for their cheer camp, and football and golf both got started with their seasons! Please see some pictures below.
