Mrs. Whitelaw & Mrs. Cox
5th Grade Rockets!
A note from Kate Noren about Graduation Party:
Hello wonderful 5th grade parents! The end of the year is almost here and that means graduation and the 5th Grade Pool Party is coming up!
Included in the pool party fee that has already been collected is Menchie’s frozen yogurt. It would be great if each class could also bring some donated snacks.
Here are our suggestions:
Mrs. Cox’s Class - Chips, pretzels, popcorn etc
Ms. Duke’s Class - Fruit or Veggies (washed & cut)
Mrs. Fleniken’s Class - Dessert (cookies, brownies, etc)
Mrs. Whitelaw’s Class - Cooler with ice & drinks (water bottles, juice boxes, or frozen tube popsicles)
Mrs. Williams’s Class - Cubed cheese / pepperoni or sausage bites / nuts / dried fruit
The pool party is not a school sponsored event. There will be lifeguards at the pool, but please make sure you are responsible for your own child. Parents are welcome and encouraged to join us at the pool.
Thanks!
Happy Graduation!!!!

Please make sure you are aware of the following information that was in the last Westside Insider:
You only need to sign and return this form if you are opting your child out of this lesson.
Dear Parents/Guardians of 4th and 5th grade students:
Leander ISD has a Human Growth curriculum for students in grades 4-12. This curriculum was developed from guidelines recommended by a committee of parents, teachers, counselors, nurses, clergy, and LISD Instructional staff and approved by the LISD Board of Trustees.
The focus of the curriculum is on human growth and development (puberty) and personal hygiene. We believe that human growth and development education begins at home. You are the primary educators of your children, and you can be an important influence on your child's health decisions.
The video, Growing Up, will be shown to the 4th and 5th graders on Friday, May 26th 2017. This video is about body changes during puberty. This video is designed to reinforce what you are teaching at home, not to replace it. There are different versions for each gender. They both discuss the normal changes that bodies go through during puberty. When viewing the video, boys and girls will be separated to ensure privacy.
If you would like to view the video in advance, please call to sign up with the front office at 570-7000. The Parent Preview date is on Tuesday, May 23rd 2017. The video will be shown in the conference room located in the office. The GIRL video will be shown at 9:15 AM and the BOY video will be shown at 9:55 AM. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to call Heather Woehl, the school counselor, at 570-7016.
Viewing the video for students is voluntary, and you may choose to opt your child out from the video by returning the non-consent format the bottom of this page to Mrs. Woehl. Please return the form by May 25th ONLY if you are opting your child out of the lesson/video. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Heather Woehl
