Chemical Reactions
By: Brianna Chapman
Synthesis Reaction
- most common type of reaction
- chemical combine to form a complex product
- iron sulfide is one example
Decomposition Reaction
- separation of chemical compound into elements
- the exact opposite of a chemical synthesis
- a compound is broken into smaller chemical species
Combustion Reaction
- major class of chemical reaction
- it occurs when hydrocarbon reacts with water to produce carbon dioxide and water
Single Displacement Reaction
- chemical reaction where one reactant is exchanged for one ion of a second reactant
Double Displacement Reaction
- reaction where part of one reactant is replaced by part of another
Oxidation-Reduction Reaction
- chemical reaction in which the oxidation numbers of the atoms are changed is an oxidation-reduction
- they are also known as redox reactions
