Curriculum Night

We are excited to host our virtual Curriculum Night this Wednesday, September 1. The evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. Please click here to access the virtual building schedule for the evening, in addition to an overview and general reminders regarding Curriculum Night. Teachers will host live curriculum presentations during your child's class period scheduled times. When you open the link above, you will notice the document does not contain grade level teacher names or specific class meeting links yet. We will share specific grade level documents with families the day before Curriculum Night. Please look out for an email that will contain that specific information. For those families who cannot attend the live virtual sessions, a copy of the presentations will be shared, via email, following Curriculum Night.

Fall MAP Testing

We have scheduled our fall MAP testing dates. Please encourage your child to try his/her best on the MAP test, as our teachers use this assessment information for planning student instruction. We are running a two-hour building-wide testing schedule on testing days. Testing begins each morning at 8:30 a.m. Below is our fall MAP testing schedule:
  • September 2: MAP Reading Test
  • September 8: MAP Math Test

Student Arrival and Dismissal

Special thanks to all our families who worked together and demonstrated great patience and understanding as we adjusted arrival and dismissal traffic procedures since the start of the year. The adjustments we made have improved overall flow of traffic in and out of the plaza drive. Below are procedural reminders for arrival and dismissal:

  • Vehicles may only turn right into the plaza drive. This means vehicles entering the drive will only be able to approach the plaza traveling eastbound along Jackson Street.

  • Vehicles will not be allowed to make a left hand turn into the plaza drive. If you live east of Jackson, we ask that you adjust your route to school in order to approach the drive traveling eastbound along Jackson Street.

  • Pull as far forward into the designated drop-off zone when dropping off your child. “As far forward” means to the end of the drive, when possible. A Jackson staff member will be at the end of the drive as a point of reference.

  • Please have your child ready to exit the vehicle quickly when you are in the designated drop-off zone. This will reduce your time in the plaza drive, in addition to wait time for others. Prior to pulling into the drive, please check with your child that he/she is ready to quickly exit the vehicle, when needed.

  • Vehicles may only turn left when exiting the drive.

  • Vehicles cannot stop, park, nor wait for students on Jackson Street between

Michigan and the west end of the plaza drive.

  • Students are never allowed to unload/load vehicles on Jackson Street west of Michigan (this includes vehicles on Jackson Street west of the plaza drive).

  • As a reminder, parents/guardians and pets are not allowed on the plaza at any time.

Students who do not have this information on file by the October 15 deadline will be excluded from school. Sixth graders are also required to turn in a completed dental exam by May 15, 2022. Any student interested in participating in Jackson athletics is required to have a current IHSA sports physical, completed by the parent/guardian and physician, on file in the Health Office. In addition, an Athletic Agreement, signed by both the student and parent/guardian with emergency contacts listed, must also be completed and submitted. PowerSchool Parent Portal

PowerSchool is a proactive communication tool parents/guardians can use to stay informed about their child’s academic and work habits progress in school. Please click on this PowerSchool Parent/Guardian Quick Guide link for more information about how to navigate the PowerSchool portal. There is a mobile app version of the PowerSchool Portal for families. The interface of the mobile app is slightly different from the web version. Attendance

A friendly reminder that it is the responsibility of a parent/guardian to contact Jackson in the event his/her child will be absent from school. Please plan to report your child’s absence, prior to 9:00 a.m., by calling our attendance line at 630-516-7368. Parents/guardians will leave a voicemail reporting their child’s absence. In the voicemail, please include the following information:

  • Child’s name and grade level

  • Date of absence

  • Reason for absence

Student absenteeism should be kept to the minimum; however, the School Board recognizes that some absences are unavoidable. The following are valid causes for a student's absence and will be considered “excused,” as specified in Section 26-2a of the Illinois School Code:

  • Illness

  • Observation of a religious holiday

  • Death in the immediate family

  • Family emergency

  • Other situations approved by the school principal
