Kindergarten Connection
August 21, 2020
Welcome to Our School!
From Mrs. Healey
Our school is a bustle of activity as we get ready for the start of the 2020-2021 school year. We are putting the final touches on preparations. The information provided here will help ease the transition to school. This year brings unique challenges and new opportunities, so I plan to communicate with you frequently using this format. You will also get to meet and hear from your child's teacher on Sept. 1st. Virtual meetings will be scheduled for our "Back to School Night" and you will receive that link directly from the teacher via email closer to the date.
When will I know my child's class assignment?
During the week of Aug. 24th, the class assignment letters will be posted in the Sapphire Parent Portal, as well as, sent through the mail. Included in that letter will be confirmation of your child's group assignment (Group A or Group B). You will get an alert from Sapphire when the letter is available to view if you have set up your parent portal. It is important that your portal is ready to go. Of utmost importance is "The Student Emergency Information Form" in the electronic backpack on the home screen. This will need to be updated or information confirmed so that we have all the most recent emergency contacts. In addition, there will be other permissions for you to confirm for your child to participate in various activities. I have attached some screen shots that will help you through the process. Finally, if you indicated in the parent survey that your child will enroll in CAOLA, please notify Angie Weber as soon as possible at aweber@mbgsd.org.
How will I find out my child's transportation information?
Bus schedules will soon be available on the district's website. You will receive a notification when that information is posted. Students will receive a bus/dismissal tag to wear for the first month of school marked with their end of the day transportation information. If you have not indicated your transportation needs on the "Intent Survey" or if your transportation needs have changed due to childcare arrangements, please contact the office at 717-506-0852 or email at kindertrans@mbgsd.org. You will have an opportunity to check the tag at our student visitation to ensure that the information is accurate. Also, if your child is riding a bus, please preview the bus safety videos below with him/her. This will help your child know what to expect and how to keep safe when riding the bus. During the first few days of school, we will have a bus orientation lesson for all students.
Will my child get to meet the teacher and see the school?
We are finalizing plans for students to come to the school to meet the teacher and see their classrooms on September 2nd from 9:30-11:00. Due to safety reasons, your child will be scheduled for a 15 minute block of time. We ask that just one parent accompany the child to the visitation and that siblings refrain from coming. More specific details will be included in the class assignment packet being sent out next week.

What is the procedure for buying lunch?
Students will not be permitted to bring money through the cafeteria line for lunch. All students have an account linked to their student ID number. Parents can send in cash or a check in a marked envelope or take advantage of our electronic system through myschoolbucks.com. Attached below is information about setting up an account. Even if you don't plan to put money in your child's food account using the system, it is very helpful to have the account to view purchases made by your child. Milk will be the only item offered at the Kindergarten Academy as an ala cart item.
Are there staffing changes at the Kindergarten Academy?
There have been some staffing changes at the Kindergarten Academy. Mrs. Deiter will be teaching the CAOLA program. Mrs. Lutz will be in a library position, covering for a librarian. The good news is that Mrs. Lutz will be the librarian at the Kindergarten Academy. Miss Taylor will teach at Elmwood Academy this year and Mrs. Woleslagle will be moving to first grade at Shepherdstown.
We welcome several new staff members. Mrs. Keener is teaching our English Language Development program. Also, Miss Allen will be joining us as our physical education Teacher. Mrs. Connell will be one of our art teachers. Our Speech and Language Clinician is Mrs. Brockman. Finally, we have two new nurses. Mrs. Baer joins us as our building nurse and Mrs. Bordlemay joins us as the certified school nurse.
