What are we Learning this week?
SOCIAL STUDIES IIM RESEARCH PROJECT!!!!
We are starting a unit on Winter Holidays in which the class will use the IIM Research Method to learn research skills. Students will use books and internet sources to answer the questions they will pose about their topic.
We will have four groups researching different Winter Holidays. These are the Holidays students will be researching: Chinese New Year, Kwanzaa, Christmas and Las Posadas.
Students will create a product and will present their product as culminating activities for their research throughout the next 3 weeks.
We will learn the about fiction and non fiction. We will learn the differences and similarities in the two genres and we will compare them. Students should be able to identify a book or reading passage as fiction or non fiction and justify their reasoning. Also, students should be able to compare and contrast text features in both genres such as table of contents, glossary, index, characters and plot etc.
Writing
This week in writing we are learning how to write fact sentences and we will learn to write notefacts about our topic.
Math
We will learn to tell time to the half hour.
We will extend the learning about telling time with writing activities reflecting the importance of telling time and how we can solve problems using time.
Science
We are starting an Energy Unit. We will discuss sources in everyday life of energy such as heat, light and sound. We will also discuss the energy usefulness in everyday life.
This Week we will have LA and Reading in English and Math and Science in Spanish
