Week at a Glance
Marian Central Catholic High School Faculty Newsletter
April 20, 2019
Midterm for Semester 2 was this past Monday. Again, a gentle reminder that you should have at least 10 formative and at least 1-2 summative grades in the gradebook by now. If you do not have the recommended amoutn of grades, please consider how you are assessing student progress moving forward, as there are not that many weeks left in the quarter. Remember that when parents look in the portal, if there are only 4-5 grades for 5 weeks of work (Q4 thus far), they begin to wonder what the basis is for their student's grade. Please also make sure that there are no blanks in the gradebook to ensure that students and parents are very clear what their student's grade is "in real time." If you have any questions or need additional assistance to ensure that your gradebook accurately reflects your students' progress, feel free to reach out to administration.
This past week our band visited all of the McHenry Deanery elementary schools. Not only did the student perform, but many of the elementary students got to try out some instruments! This will go a long way to stir a little more interest in the music program at Marian! Way to go!
Thanks to all for being flexible last week Monday as we had a quick homeroom so our juniors could vote for prom court. It will be exciting to find out who the court members are this week! In addition, our sophomores got to hear a presentation about Josten's ring orders. We all know how special this time is in a high school student's life, as they start to think about how to memorialize their high school experience with a class ring or piece of jewlery. Sorry it took a little longer than expected... but hopefully your period 2 was not too disjointed!
Mrs. Hilton and Ms. Novy are working hard on building the 2019-20 master schedule. We are hoping that we will have the schedule somewhat secured by May so that if we have any student scheduling conflicts, we will still have some face-to-face time with students to discuss alterations, if necessary.
Finally, Wednesday evening the French Honor Society welcomed their new inductees. Félicitations!
Looking ahead...
Although we are attending school on Easter Monday, we will be welcoming the week with our All School Easter Mass. Even though we will feel the stress and excitement of this week because it is also prom week, our mass will provide us with a sense of peace and gratfulness as we celebrate it together. We are utilizing an extended mass schedule so that right after mass we will be announcing the prom court!
At the end of day Monday we will also be cheering out Joe Noonan as he goes to state for the Academic Challenge WYSE) team!
So what else going on this week?
In all Theoloogy classes, our Circles of Care program will cover important concepts such as chastity and safe environment. These discussions may cause students to be a bit more reflective, so remember that you have support with Father Twenty and the entire Theology Department if a student has additional questions. In addition, Father Twenty will be opening confessions for all students throughout the day on Thursday. Students will be allowed to go to confessions during their Theology classes. Thank you for supporting our student in their faith.
