The Wonderful World of Woodbury
November 2019
And now a word from our Principal...
Hello, Woodbury Families!
Wow, what a whirlwind this fall weather has been! Snow, then rain, then take your coat off temps, and back to cold again soon! We are loving the changing colors of the leaves and joy in seeing our students soak up their outside time. We dread the days where the freezing temps keep us cooped up and away from the fresh air. Staying outside and keeping kids active during the winter can be difficult, but we hope you are taking advantage of the days as they become less and less. We have a busy month ahead with our Veteran's Day Assembly, field trips and after school activities, bread making before the Thanksgiving holiday, and more. Our students have been busy setting and achieving goals, both big and small, in their classrooms and ringing the bell in proud achievement. Success looks different for each child and we love being able to honor them!
Parent Teacher conferences are coming up this week with a half day on November 7th and NO SCHOOL on November 8th. We look forward to partnering with your child in their education. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you are unable to attend. This is our first year where all 4 grade levels are on trimesters and all are using our standards based grading report card. Trimesters allow us more time to get to know your child better and helps provide more details about their performance. We look forward to seeing you! Please do not hesitate to stop by our office to say hello. And while you are here, please take some time to complete our school survey. We hope to receive some additional feedback from you on how to continually improve our school and learning environment to help make Woodbury a great place for students and families. We are seeking additional ways to partner with you in our school improvement planning and decision making as a school.
Wishing you a joyous Thanksgiving holiday ahead and wonderful time celebrating being together with family and friends.
With Kindness,
Mrs. Kern
At Woodbury School, Attendance Matters...
It is our practice to review attendance monthly and reach out to parents/guardians should it be necessary. We encourage you to reach out as well. It is also our practice to inform you via phone call, email, or letter should you approach the permitted number of excused absences or if unexcused absences begin to accrue. After a student has been excused 7 times in one school year (or the last 180 days of school including the previous year), additional excused absences for illnesses may only be verified through a written medical statement from a physician.
Here is when you might hear from us:
When a student has met the 7 excused absences.
When a student reaches 3 unexcused absences.
At 5 unexcused absences, the student is referred to the DeKalb County Truancy Officer for supportive intervention.
