The Leader In Me

This year we are excited to continue being a Leader in Me school. Leader in Me is a mindset focused around seven habits of success. We believe that everyone is a leader. Throughout the year, we will teach these habits to encourage students to become effective leaders.

Habit 1: Be Proactive – I am responsible for myself (my actions, attitudes and moods).

Habit 2: Begin with the end in mind. – I plan ahead and set goals.

Habit 3: Put first things first. – I spend my time on the things that are most important.

Habit 4: Think win-win – I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want.

Habit 5: Seek first to understand, then to be understood. – I listen before I talk.

Habit 6: Synergize – I know that working together is better.

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw – I take care of my body and mind.

From the COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP TEACHER Mrs. Hartley:

For the past several weeks, in our Community Leadership class, we have been focusing on Habit 1, Be Proactive, which states "I'm in charge of myself". Students have been learning about their own circle of control and how focusing on what they can control (which is themselves) allows others to view them as leaders. They have also been challenged to show initiative, at home and at school, by doing things they know they need to without being asked, for example: making their beds, cleaning up after themselves, and being quiet in line.

In the upcoming weeks, we will be shifting to Habit 2, Begin with the End in Mind. We will be learning how important it is to have a plan, to think ahead, and to set goals that are both specific and achievable. We will also be learning about what matters most, as leaders show what they value through their actions. We have a lot of "learning fun" in Community Leadership as we are growing Leaders!
