The Compass

Week of November 15, 2021

Navigation Notes

Hello Westside Families! Our students and staff have been spreading Gratitude and Kindness around like confetti and we look forward to continuing this week. Students will be discussing Gratitude and Kindness again during Class Convention, taking part in Kindness activities and will be able to purchase "Gratitude Grams" this week for $0.50 each to send to someone special. This is a fundraiser for our Kindness Club to purchase club shirts and materials for campus acts of kindness!

Brevard Public Schools will now be closed ALL next week, 11/22-11/26, for the Thanksgiving Break. For those in need of childcare, Brevard County Parks & Recreation is offering Fall Break Camp on Monday November 22nd, Tuesday November 23rd, and Wednesday November 24th. There are camp locations across the county and each day costs less than $20.This is a great option for families looking for child care the first part of Thanksgiving week. Registration is open for children ages 6 -12. CLICK HERE for more information and to register your child for the day camp.

Thank you to the all the families for their donations from Amazon for our Explorer Exchange last week! The students will be so excited to shop the cool new additions. If you'd like to purchase items to support our PBIS initiative, please click on link below.

Last, the weather has been cooling down, so be sure to dress your child in appropriate clothing as the temperatures drop. Layers are the key as the mornings tend to be chilly, but it warms up quickly! We HIGHLY recommend putting your child's first and last name on the tags of all jackets as they often end up in our Lost & Found.

I hope each of your families has a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! We are so grateful to have you as part of our school community!

Festival of Trees

Westside will be lining our Commons area with a Festival of Trees for the month of December! Each grade level and department will be decorating their tree in a theme of their choice with student-made art and other creative items!

We are looking for donations of 12 NEW or GENTLY USED artificial trees that are 6 ft or taller by November 29th. These can be returned to you OR if you'd like to donate it to our permanent collection, we would love that too! If you are interested, please reach out to Mrs. Woodbury at the contact information above.

SAVE THE DATE: Winter Music Concert

Ms. Hodge and her talented students will be performing for families on Wednesday, December 15th at 6:00p! Please be sure to pencil in the date and return the RSVP when sent after Thanksgiving. In order to maintain safety protocols, each family will be offered a limited number of seats for the performance. We look forward to sharing their wonderful, musical accomplishments with you!

Westside Explorers Are Learning Every Moment of Every Day!

Our school celebrated World Kindness Day led by our Kindness Club! Students created art for the halls, a rainbow of random acts of kindness, chalk drawings and even read books about being kind. Please be sure to purchase a "Gratitude Gram" this week in the mornings to support their efforts!
