"Activate Your Soul" with the Philadelphia Soul

On April 1st, OV students attended an assembly given by the Philadelphia Soul to highlight the importance of healthy eating and physical exercise. During the assembly, the students saw a short movie clip of the Soul players and heard a presentation on the success of the team (tied to healthy lifestyle). The students were treated to a visit by the team's mascot, the "Soul Man" who came to work with a few of our student volunteers to their favorite gym exercise. The "Soul Man" also challenged our students to a keep a log of one healthy food choice and an activity done outside of school for 14 days. Logs will be distributed on Monday and any student who completes the log, will receive a Soul Poster.

Also, the Piladelphia Soul will be playing a game at the Sun Bank Arena in Trenton! OV will be able to purchase tickets for this rare game event, and for each ticket purchased, OV will receive $6.00! Stay tuned for more information on how you can spend an afternoon with your family at the Philadelphia Soul, and help to raise funds for our school.

How can you help your child/children?

Parents and guardians can help their students by ensuring they get a good night's sleep each night and also by providing a healthy breakfast. Keep the pressure down - remind the kids that it's their best effort that counts.

How we are helping your child/children?

We at OV have been planning and delivering strong educational programs. We have also implemented a "GROWTH MINDSET" approach to education. We believe that it is the effort a child puts into completing tasks as well as having the stamina to stick with a tricky problem. We also are reminding the students to do their best.

Spring Conferences

Parent/Guardian - Teacher Conferences will take place April 27th, 28th, and 29th. Please know that these days are HALF-DAYS for students and lunch will not be served.

Communication between a parent/guardian and a teacher is necessary for a child's continued academic success and social development. These conferences continue to be an integral and beneficial part of our educational process. Conferences allow for teachers to report directly to parents/guardians regarding their child's progress in school and for parents/guardians to share other infromation about their children. This sharing of information is an important ingredient in effective instruction.
