Bobcat Bulletin
Week of November 8th
From the Desk of Principal Schmid
Happy Diwali to all of our families who are celebrating! I have really enjoyed getting to learn about this joyous celebration from students and staff this past week. The learning and celebrating continues into this week as we have our World Culture Celebration! Your child brought home a flyer via backpack mail and a copy is listed below as well. One of the many wonderful things about Brookdale is our diversity. Demographics of the school alone to do not do justice to many cultures and languages that exist within our student body. This weekend is the perfect time to talk to your child about their heritage as we share and learn about the world around us.
This week marks the midpoint for our fall intervention progress as part of our Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). At this point in the year, we review students' progress in current interventions by reviewing the progress monitoring data that is targeted towards the students' deficit area(s). Based on a review of this information, we may or may not make changes to a child's intervention plan. We have continued to check-in on students' progress through the first quarter, and overall we are pleased with the progress students are making thanks to the incredibly hard work of our staff and you supporting from home! My hope is you are seeing that growth as well in your work with them at home.
We are looking forward to our Parent Teacher Conferences and the opportunity to share your child's progress with you and our areas of focus as you work to support from home. As a reminder, Parent Teacher Conference sign-up goes live on November 10th at 10:00AM via ParentVUE. In-person conferences are only available on Thursday and Monday time slots are all virtual.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out. You can always call our main office at 630-428-6800. Ms. Minch and Mrs. Fiala are a wealth of information and are always ready to support you with your questions.
With Sincere Gratitude,
Mrs. Keeley Schmid
Brookdale's Proud Principal
UPDATES
Brookdale World Culture Week: November 8th-12th
Tuesday: The PTA has purchased a world map for every classroom. Students will get the chance to identify countries they share their heritage with. This is a great topic to discuss as a family before Tuesday.
Wednesday: Draw and color a flag from a country in the world using the provided paper and bamboo stick. Upload a picture of your child with their flag into the World Culture Week google album.
Thursday: Optional dress up day! Students can show their spirit by dressing to represent their culture or heritage. Upload a picture of your child in their cultural attire in the World Culture Week google album.
Friday: We’ll share a link of all the pictures, crafts and paper doll artwork we’ve collected this week in a fun video “parade!” PLUS: Every family who submits a picture in our google album will be entered to win a gift card to a local restaurant!
Dismissal Change Reminder
If your child has a change to his/her dismissal plan, please call the office by 3:15PM at the latest.
There are many moving pieces to dismissal, and if the change of dismissal is made after 3:15, it cannot be guaranteed that we can get the message to the child because many times they are already enroute. Changing a dismissal time also causes confusion for the student, and we need enough time to be able to support the child in their new dismissal plan.
We want to make sure all 500 children make it home smoothly and safely daily, and we appreciate your support with that goal!

Boundary Updates
At the October 27, 2021 Boundary Committee Meeting, RSP & Associates reviewed information with committee members to guide future discussion for the boundary redistricting process. During the meeting, RSP discussed 2021-22 enrollment as well as current and recent developments, and updated the committee on projections using the current year data. Looking at the previously presented concepts, RSP also explained the impact of the new data on building capacity.
RSP & Associates will make final adjustments to the concepts in preparation for the community forums. The community is encouraged to attend the forums and provide feedback on the concepts prior to the final proposals being created and presented to the board of education.
The community forums will be held at the district’s three high schools on the following dates.
- Monday, November 8 from 7 - 9 pm at Waubonsie Valley High School, Enter Door #33
- Tuesday, November 9 from 7 - 9 pm at Neuqua Valley High School, Enter Door #7
- Wednesday, November 10 from 7 - 9 pm at Metea Valley High School, Enter Door #1
Prior to the forums, the concept maps will be available on the district’s website for public viewing. An opportunity to submit questions will also be available in advance of the community forums. The three community forums will be the same format with identical information being presented. For those unable to attend, materials from the forums, including a recording of the forum presentation and feedback survey, will be available online.
For more information on the boundary process, to view meeting materials, or watch meeting videos, visit 2021 Boundary Committee. You can also read the boundary FAQ here.
Report Cards
District 204 provides elementary report cards through ParentVUE. You currently can view your child's elementary school report card through ParentVUE. After you log into your ParentVUE account, you will find the Report Card tab on the left. If you need assistance, please call the Brookdale office (630.428.6800) next week. Here is the report card grading system for each grade level. This is also available through ParentVUE.
Kindergarten report cards for the first quarter include marks for the Math Profile of Progress only. Quarters 2, 3, and 4 will include marks for all areas.
As always, our doors are open to you. Please contact your child's teacher with any questions or concerns at report card time and throughout the school year.
We look forward to talking with you at the upcoming parent/teacher conferences on November 18 (in-person) and 22 (virtual). Sign up information will be shared soon.

Academically Talented Programming
District 204 offers a variety of academic programs to meet the needs of our students starting in 3rd grade. Although assessment occurs throughout the school year for all students, some programs require the gathering of additional information in order to determine appropriate placement. Our identification process for Project Arrow and Accelerated Math programs includes the use of multiple measures when considering the total child for academic programming. We consider standardized and normed assessment data including, but not limited to, the following: Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT), Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS), aimswebPlus, classroom assessments and students' learning characteristics.
For additional information regarding the timeline and our programming in District 204, please see the below link.
Submit a "Trophy High" to be Read on the Morning Announcements!
We have incorporated into our morning announcements "Trophy High Tuesday" to celebrate the wonderful things our Bobcats are doing in our school and around our community! Please share a "Trophy High" with us. Depending the amount we receive, we cannot guarantee every "Trophy High" will make it on the announcements, but we appreciate you helping us celebrate the wonderful things our Bobcats are doing!
