SPEAKER SERIES
Encourage your student to take advantage of the weekly opportunities we provide for them to interact with people from various careers! If your student is interested in learning about civil engineering or city planning, have them register for the morning session in next week's Speaker Series. In the afternoon session, students who register can learn about what's involved in a career managing information systems and city records.
- Wednesday (4/6), 10:30-11:15 am: Chris Gottleib & Jordyn Cikesh, Civil Engineers (REGISTER HERE)
- Wednesday (4/6), 12:30-1:15 pm: Jackie Uhler, City Records/Information Systems (REGISTER HERE)
Students who register via the link above will receive a confirmation email with the Zoom link. We are always looking for careers to highlight, so if you or someone you know may be interested in participating in our Speaker Series, please complete this form and someone will be in contact soon.
PSAT/SAT TESTING DAY - APRIL 13TH
All Juniors will be taking the state-sponsored SAT with Essay on April 13, 2022 at their home high school. This is a state and district graduation requirement. The makeup date for the SAT is April 26, 2022. Juniors who don't take the SAT this spring will have to take it next spring before they graduate.
Sophomores will be taking the state-sponsored PSAT 10 and Freshmen will take the PSAT 9 on April 13th at their home high school. Makeup dates for the PSAT 9 & 10 will be determined after the initial test date. Seniors will have a non-attendance day and are encouraged to participate in job shadowing or work-based learning as they typically would.
The next step in preparing for your April test date is to link your College Board and Khan Academy accounts, unlocking a free PSAT/SAT study plan. Linking these accounts will give you access to a personalized experience on Official SAT Practice.
Please contact Ms. Ohlson or Mrs. Stanley with any questions.

Interested students should complete the Registration Form and return it to Ms. Ohlson at Compass Academy.
COMPASS CARES EVENT FOR APRIL - BLANKETS FOR PROJECT LINUS
The blanket-making has begun at Compass! Student volunteers have started knitting, crocheting, and hand-tying blankets for our Compass Cares event, which will happen later in April. Any students and families who would like to support this effort can get involved in the following ways:
-- Donating items that would help students make blankets:
- Acrylic yarn in any color
- Printed fleece fabric of at least 1-1.5 yard in length
- Crochet hooks, knitting needles, and plastic tapestry needles
- Fabric scissors (we will use these for future projects at Compass as well)
-- Making blankets at home for donation. Link is HERE to a pattern page from Project Linus.
- Must be handmade (knit, crocheted, quilted, sewn, or a single layer of fleece with edges tied together)
- Crocheted, knitted, or sewn blankets are ideally at least 45 inches square or larger
- Fleece blankets are ideally a single layer of fleece with tied edges at least 1 yard in length with salvage removed
- All blankets must be free of cigarette smoke, pet dander/hair, or other contaminants due to the sometimes medically fragile status of the recipients.
-- Crocheting or knitting 6” squares made from acrylic yarn
- These will be later sewn together with other squares donated to make larger blankets.
All donations can be dropped off by students to Ms. Ohlson’s office before school each day.
We recognize that many students don’t know how to knit, crochet, sew, or make fleece blankets. After Spring Break, interested students will continue to have the opportunity during flex time to learn how to knit or crochet from other students and staff. If students already know how to do these tasks, they can help out by teaching other students as well. All are welcome regardless of skill level or ability!
