Growing Greatness
Dear Northwood Community,
Our Hispanic Heritage Month on Friday was a huge success! Thank you to our student M.C's Matthew and Emma, the MacArthur High School Ballet Folklorico group and Soberano Mariachi Group for their performances and Ms. Petrutsas and her committee for putting all together. This is one of the many events that our PTA helps support and fund! Thank you all!.
We are excited to kick off our annual Fun Run this week! We will have an exciting assembly with our representatives from Boosterthon to give us all the information about how we can raise funds this year to help support special classroom, projects, student incentives, field trips and more! This year we are having a "Glow Run" that will take place in the gym on Oct. 6. We will need a few parent volunteers to help us mark laps, so be on the lookout for a sign up. It is always a lot of fun and we appreciate your support!
There are a lot of fun activities happening at Northwood and a lot of information to share about the special events that are coming up. Please scroll all the way to the end of the newsletter so you don't miss anything.
If you ever have any questions or need any thing, don't hesitate to reach out.
Have a great week and thank you for your support!
Mrs. Harper

G.R.O.W. Spotlight: "Growing Greatness" is our 2023-2024 theme.
Our newsletters will feature a "G.R.O.W. Spotlight" with tips for fostering greatness at home,
focusing on goal orientation, respect, staying on task, and willpower.
A note about “goal orientation” from parentingforbrain.com:
Children are more likely to develop motivation if they set their own goals rather than having it assigned to them.
Volunteer for Art: Attention parents, or any guardian who loves creating art, we do not have an art teacher at Northwood and for our children to have the important subject we rely on volunteers. If you would like to volunteer to help, please make sure you have your required DPS clearance, and email Katie Dolan at kd.dolan@hotmail.com and let her know your interest. There are multiple times available and all grades that need support.

School Absences
Our goal is for all of our students to maintain outstanding attendance (at least 95%). Our current rate is 95.5%. Let's keep up the good work!
The best way to learn is by being present at school and on time, ready to learn at 7:30 am every day! If your child needs to be absent due to illness, please be sure to send a note to school the day they return explaining the reason for the absence. Absences for illness and medical appointments will be excused with a written note.
Morning RoutinesOur school day is from 7:30 am - 2:45 pm. Students may enter the building as early as 6:50 am to eat breakfast. If your child arrives before 7:23 am they will wait in the following location K-1: Cafeteria, 2-5: Gym. Please have your child put a book in their backpack, so they can read while they wait. At 7:23 am the teachers will pick up the students and go to class. The tardy bell rings at 7:30 am, so please allow plenty of time. In order to ensure the safety of all our students, we ask that parents not come into the building in the mornings. We will make sure that everyone gets to class safely. | School Breakfast and LunchWe have a wonderful cafeteria that serves breakfast and lunch daily. This year meals are provided at no charge to ALL students as part of the Community Eligibility Program. In order for us to keep this service, all families need to provide household income information. If your child wants "extras" beyond the regular school tray, you need to add money to their cafeteria account by visiting schoolcafe.com or sending in a check or cash. Click HERE for the September menu. | Pick Up ProceduresEveryone picking up a student from school at dismissal is required to present an official green Northwood Dismissal Tag. If you need an extra one, please let your child’s teacher know. If you do not have a dismissal tag, you will be required to come to the front office and present an ID. All car pick and parent pick up must present their tag and wait for their child to be called at dismissal.Parent Pick Up will line up on the sidewalk near the marquee, with their green tag and wait to be called. Please do not go over to the area where your child is sitting. Car pick up will hang their green tag on their rear view mirror, line up on Rockhill and turn right into the school driveway. Wait for your child's name to be called and pull all the way forward. Please stay in your car. If you need to help your child with their buckle, please park and drive up. We understand that this may take a little longer, however, we want to ensure that everyone goes homes safely. Thank you for your cooperation. |
