Our Lady of Lourdes School T1, 2022

Nau mai, Haere mai, Welcome to Term1: Week 6

HELLO, KIA ORA, KIA ORĀNA, MALO E LELEI, TALOFA, NAMASTE, KUMUSTA...

Blessings to you all during this first week of Lent. We are racing through the term, already in Week 6. We are so very proud of how resilient and happy our children are and how the school is all working for the good of all. We continue to keep you all in our thoughts and prayers. We pray for our world, that we may all be people of peace to each other especially in these times.

COVID UPDATE
We now have a number of children isolating from school for a variety of reasons. The health and wellbeing of our learners, staff and community remains our top priority, and we need to be especially vigilant at this time.

What you need to do:

  • You and your household should watch closely for symptoms

  • If any develop, get tested immediately

  • Then, stay at home until you receive the result

What we’re doing:

  • We’re remaining open

  • We are adopting appropriate public health measures and cleaning procedures consistent with requirements for the red light traffic system

  • We will communicate with you if the situation changes and there is a known risk of infection from school.

Symptoms of COVID-19:

  • A new or worsening cough

  • Sneezing and runny nose

  • A fever

  • Temporary loss of smell or changed sense of taste

  • Sore throat

  • Shortness of breath

  • Pains in the stomach

For more information on COVID-19, go to https://covid19.govt.nz/.

PLEASE NOTE:

Teachers will use the SEESAW app to keep in touch with you if and when we may need to move into a mixture of onsite and offsite learning if our numbers are split of those at home and at school. Please make sure you check in with our school app (SchoolAppsNZ), our website or facebook. We will also send home emails should that be required as well.

Again, our thanks for your support as we journey together in these uncertain times. You are always in our prayers.

Go gently, take good care of each other, being a person of MERCY in our world.

Blessings

WELL BEING AT OLOL

Mr Anderson, as part of his role as our Within School Teacher in our Palmerston North Catholic Kāhui Ako, is working with our staff on Hauora and wellbeing. We are continuing with this in our classroom and school environment. And we want to share little snippets each week with you - the most important factor in your child's life.

STRATEGIC GOALS for 2022

Below is a brief outline of priorities for 2022. We have set these goals in line with Ministry of Education guidelines and the National Education Learning Priorities. We will share with you mid way through the year how we are tracking with these as well as our mid year data.

LENT and CARITAS resources

The theme for Lent 2022 is Building Dreams Together: Called to be Peacemakers. (How truly appropriate with everything that is going on ) In our changing world we need to come together and find ways of realising our dreams. There is always hope of transforming our world for the better when we are guided by peace, love and justice in our lives.

SYNOD

A global invitation

During this significant time in the Church’s history, Pope Francis invites ALL of us to reflect on our faith journey and share our vision for the future of the Catholic Church. Our diocese is currently asking people to share their voice and to listen to one another as part of this process.

This is an invitation to participate and explain how your school community can be part of this important moment.

Getting Involved

The Catholic School community, including all staff, students and whānau, is a very important part of the Diocese of Palmerston North. We hope as many people as possible from across our school communities are able to be involved in the local phase of the Synod, which is currently underway.

Involving whānau

In addition to the participation of students in this process, we would love to hear the important voice of our whānau/families connected to our schools. Below are some ways that you might be able to share this opportunity with your students' whānau.

  • Information for whānau/families could be included in newsletters and through your school app. An example blurb is included in the ‘Classroom Resource’ and on our website. You are welcome to adapt or add to. You could also share this video invitation with parents in your digital communication to your school community: https://youtu.be/A7l3OE7JVkU

Contact us at synod@pndiocese.org.nz or visit our webpage https://pndiocese.org.nz/synodinschools for resources, information about how to make submissions and downloads.

Thank you for all that you do.
