Eagle Edition #12 - 2022-23
November 18, 2022
Happy Friday, Eagles!
Here are your important school updates for this week:
- FISH's annual FEED THE BUS event takes place tomorrow, November 19 from 9 AM to 3 PM in the Grand Blanc High School parking lot. If you're able to donate any food or hygiene items, our FISH program would greatly appreciate your support. Please find a flyer for this event at the end of this newsletter!
- WINTER WEATHER/PLAYGROUND
- Please know that we will do our best to have students playing outside as the winter weather permits. Make sure your students are dressed warmly! If your student needs a coat, please let us know at Anderson/McGrath, as we can try to assist with this.
- We have noon hour supervisors out at recess every day. If your student ever needs assistance on the playground, please make sure they ask for help from any one of our many adults who are outside supervising recess.
- No students should be picking up snow or ice on the playground at any time. We have discussed this over the PA and on our morning Google Meet together, but it is an expectation for all of our Anderson & McGrath students - we want to keep our school community safe for everyone.
- WINTER BREAK SPIRIT DAYS
- Monday, December 12: Ugly Sweater Day (wear your wildest ugly sweater to school)
- Tuesday, December 13: Flannel day (wear your favorite flannel, plaid, or red shirt so we can take classroom pics)
- Wednesday, December 14: Grinch Day (dress up in your favorite Grinch or Who-ville gear)
- Thursday, December 15: Jingle Bells (show off your favorite holiday outfit, hat, or jewelry)
- Friday, December 16: Pajama Day (wear your coziest pajamas for a movie day with your class)

- 2nd grade will have a concert on Thursday, Dec 15 in McGrath's large gym at 6 PM.

- HAND, FOOT & MOUTH DISEASE
This time of year we sometimes see an increase in illnesses such as Hand Foot Mouth disease. Hand Foot Mouth is a viral disease in which typically the child will experience sudden onset fever, sore throat, cough, and tiny blisters inside mouth, throat, and on extremities.
How can it be prevented?∙ Wash hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds
∙ Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
∙ Avoid close contact such as kissing, hugging, and sharing utensils
∙ Disinfect frequently touched surfaces
When can student return to school?
· 24 hours after fever is gone without fever reducing medication
· No sores in mouth
· Secretions from blisters can be contained and open sores covered
- MORNING DROP OFF
- If you're dropping off a student and the outside doors are closed, you need to walk your student inside. Thank you for your help in keeping all of our students and staff safe!
- NEWS FROM THE LUNCHROOM
- We encourage all students to eat a nutritious breakfast which will prepare them for the school day. Research shows that students who eat breakfast score better on standardized tests, improve academic achievements, have fewer health issues, and behave better in class.
- All students are eligible to participate in the school breakfast program. If you walk, ride the bus, or come to school by car, you can still have breakfast at school. At Anderson & McGrath, students receive both free breakfast and lunch. There is no extra paperwork required.
- Breakfast is served in the Anderson & McGrath cafeteria from 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM.
- UPCOMING AUTHOR VISIT
- On Monday, Nov 21 at 6:30 PM, the brand new GBHS library will be hosting a local author, Keith Stone, to share his story in his new book, the Optimistic Quadriplegic. Keith is the husband of former Indian Hill Principal Sarah Stone. If you'd like to attend this author event at Grand Blanc High School, please reserve your spot for FREE at this link. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
- TRANSPORTATION INFO
- Please do not walk through the morning drop off lines to bring your student into the building. This is dangerous! If you need to walk your student in yourself, please park in the main lot in front of the office and walk your student inside.
- If you need to change your student's method of transportation home, please make sure to notify your building office: Anderson office: 591-5829; McGrath office: 591-5827
- Teachers cannot change the way a student is getting home without verification, which needs to be communicated through the office BEFORE 3:00 PM.
- If your student arrives at school after 8:50 AM, please walk into the office and sign in your student.
- Car Pick Up - Please make sure to remain in your vehicles as you drive up to our cones at the end of the day at both Anderson & McGrath. We will get your students to you as quickly as we can!
