Talent Show Auditions
We are looking for Homestead students with lots of fun talent to show off! Performing numbers can range from a variety of singing, dancing, acting, playing an instrument or showing off a unique talent. Performances (lyrics and costumes, specifically) must be appropriate for young students.
*** Important Notes: 1) Each student will only be allowed to audition for one number. 2) Each student's act MUST be 2 minutes or less. No exceptions.
You must have your parent's permission to sign up at:
http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e094faca92da02-homestead4
If you don't like to perform, but you want to help with the show, we are looking for help with curtains, props, lights, organizing performers, and basically helping to make a great show! If interested in being a stage hand, send Mrs. Beck an email. She will give top priority to 5th graders for these limited spots.

iPad / 1:X Update - Plan to Send Home by End of January
Lewisville ISD remains committed to providing digital access for student learning. This commitment includes the continued effort to launch an LISD Elementary App Store for elementary students participating in the district’s 1:X initiative.
The LISD Elementary App Store has been launched and the district is continually adding instructional apps to the store on a daily basis. LISD believes its ongoing testing is almost complete and the district intends to begin sending iPads home with students by the end of January.
In addition, any elementary 1:X families, who paid the $40 iPad insurance fee for the 2015-2016 school year, will not have to pay the fee for the 2016-2017 school year. Please know that this also applies to 5th grade students moving up to 6th grade.
We appreciate your patience this semester. If you have any questions, please contact LISD’s Helpdesk at helpdesk@lisd.net or call 972-350-1833 and select option 1 to be directed to the district’s Technical Helpdesk.
For more information about LISD’s Elementary App Store, please visit the 1:X webpage, which can be accessed from LISD’s website: http://lisd.net/Page/9750.

Vocabulit - Lesson 18 (Week of Jan 11-15)
Due to early dismissal on Friday, our Vocabulit exercises will be due, and the Spelling/Vocabulit Tests will be on Thursday this week.
Exercises 3-5 due Thursday, January 14
Spelling & Vocabulit Tests - Thursday, January 14
Practice Spelling words on Spelling City.
Research project
We have revamped our plan for our research project, and it will begin this week. Instead of researching a person, students will be working in pairs or groups of three to research a particular event in and around the Revolutionary War. They will be assigned their partner or group and their research topic this week.
STAAR Benchmark Test
We will be giving a STAAR practice test, or benchmark test, at the end of January. As soon as we have the exact date I'll let you know. This will give me a good idea about who will need additional help and tutoring over the next couple of months.
Ray
Math
On Tuesday we will review for our test over multiplying decimals and dividing decimals by one digit divisors. These are covered in Topics 3 and 6, and there are review pages and practice tests in the book if you'd like your child to review more. The test is Wednesday. On Thursday we'll go over the CBA that we took a few weeks ago.
Students were given an optional extra credit project last week ("The Snowman Construction Company"). This is due by Friday so that the grade will count on this nine-weeks.
There will be no Weekly Check Up this week.
Mt. Math Due by Friday/Think Through Math Due by Monday
Ray/Vandeman
Science
Units: The Water Cycle; Weather & Climate
We'll test over all 4 "Sun" units after we finish our unit on weather and climate.
New vocabulary will be distributed on Monday. The quiz will be on January 22. The words and definitions will also be on my website.
Social Studies
We are continuing our study of the Declaration of Independence and the Revolutionary War. Our current Read Aloud book ties into this as well. It's called George Washington's Socks. In addition to this, our research project which covers both Language Arts and Social Studies TEKS will begin this week.
