Board Discussions
Planning for Explore 44 -- District 44 Summer School Program
Chief Academic Officer Brett Sharkey provided an update to the Board of Education on planning that is underway for the upcoming Explore 44 Summer School Program.
Recently, parents were asked to complete a brief survey to help the administration understand priority needs when it comes to types of offerings. Additionally, staff have been asked to complete a similar survey to express interest in teaching and submit proposals for offerings.
The results of those two surveys will directly influence overall planning. Registration is expected to officially open April 23. Explore 44 will be open to students in grades 1-8 from June 7-June 24.
Plans for Remote Academy for 2021-2022 School Year
Using the district's experiences and knowledge from this past year, the administration is currently developing the EVOLVE Academy, an exclusively online school. Director of Grants and Literacy Dr. Annetta Spychalski, who has been leading the initiative of EVOLVE Academy, provided the Board a high level update on planning.
Parents and staff can expect more detailed information early next week about EVOLVE. In the meantime, an overview of the program can be viewed below.
Trauma Informed Teaching Remains Priority
"It is important that our staff understands how trauma impacts everyone differently and how they can best support themselves and our students," Martin said.
"By offering this training, it is providing our educators with another set of tools to identify the needs of our students and differentiate our approach to ensure we are engaging and reaching them on all levels," McCall said.
Given the amount of positive feedback they have received from staff who have attended this year's trainings, the two intend on expanding their offerings next school year to reach everyone in the district who would be interested.
