Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, and Islam
Christianity
Christian's believe in one God. The father, son, and the Holy Spirit. They believe he created the heavens and the earth. And sent his son down to die on a cross for our sins. Two rituals Christians use are praying and going to a chapel/ church. They have a book called the Bible. That contains scripture verses and stories from when Jesus ( Gods son ) walked the earth, and even before that. They are monotheistic , meaning they believe in one God. A brief history of Christianity - Christianity derived from Judaism and was spread by Jesus's deciples. After he resurrected from the cross he told them to go spread the good news, then creating Christianity.
Buddhism
Buddhism is the belief in karma, Buddha, and the 4 noble truths. Karma is when what goes around comes around. So if your bad, bad things will happen to you. Buddha was not a god or did not claim to be. He just showed the path to enlightenment through his own personal experiences. The 4 noble truths are basically about - 1) Life is frought with suffering. 2) we suffer because we grasp for things. 3) we can save ourselves from suffering; hope 4) you need to live your life just right. In between. Buddhism has tolerance for other religions. Brief history of Buddhism - It started In Asia . 95% of the population are now in Thailand. It derived from Buddha the man. Buddhists don't "worship" Buddha but they respect his pictures and statues.
Hinduism
Hindus believe that the universe undergoes endless cycles of creation, preservation and dissolution. They believe in a spiritually awakened , satguru, who has personal discipline, good conduct, purification, pilgrimage, self-inquiry and meditation. Hindus believe that all life is sacred, to be loved and revered, and therefore practice ahimsa, "noninjury." About 20 million Hindus live outside India. All the rest live in India, where the religion was born. Hinduism derives from Indian tribes around 3000 B.C. Hinduism rituals cover eating, sleeping, and working as well as love, marriage, and friendship. Hinduism is monotheistic.
Judaism
Jews believe in God and that human kind was created in a divine image. Jews don't believe that Jesus is the messiah like Christians do. They think the messiah has not arrived yet arrived. They have a book full of versus and stories, not the bible, called the mitzvoth of Torah. They often pray to Mary. They recite what they learned form the Torah. They don't directly ask forgiveness from God. Instead they ask forgiveness from the "father". Judaism originated in Israel around 4,000 years ago. Abraham is considered as the father of the family of Jews as he is thought of as a symbol of trusting and obeying God.
Islam
Muslims believe Mohammad is a prophet of Allah ( God ) They believe that Jesus was a great speaker but is not Mohammad. Quran is their Book full of versus just like Christians bible. There rituals are called the five pillars of Islam.
- Faith or belief in the Oneness of God and the finality of the prophethood of Muhammad;
- Establishment of the daily prayers;
- Concern for and almsgiving to the needy;
- Self-purification through fasting; and
- The pilgrimage to Makkah for those who are able.
