Weekly Message
Dear Raleigh Hills Families and Community,
What a wonderful night we had at the 2/3 concert on Wednesday. I learned so much about underwater life! It was evident that our second and third graders had practiced and practiced to bring us such a spectacular and informative performance. In addition to learning the lyrics to 8 songs, many children also learned speaking parts. It was nice to see them perform to a packed house as well. Thank you to all the parents who came to hear. And thanks especially to Ms. DeHaven and Mr. Libonati for organizing and helping the students engage in this wonderful learning opportunity.
We will have our monthly parent coffees on Monday morning beginning at 8:30. Our café in español will begin at 9 followed by an opportunity to learn about Canvas at 9:30. Canvas is the program that our middle school teachers use to get students their assignments. Once you learn how to use it, it's a great way to know what is coming up for your student. So the next time you say, "What did you do in school today?" or "What do you have for homework?" and your student says, "Nothing," you can check Canvas to find out for sure. Please join us! Chris Giles, our district Canvas support person, will be on hand to answer all of your questions. We will have interpreters and chromebooks ready for you, so you don't need to bring anything!
Warm regards,
Jennifer

Library Happenings over Winter Break
December is just around the corner! Just wanted to let you know about some of the neat things happening at the library over winter break. We know that students need to read, read, read to succeed! Let the library help you over winter break!
Winter Break Programs: Every day of winter break there will be something new to do at the library from 2-3 PM for kids in grades K-5 and their families. With balloon rockets, fantastic forts, pop-up cards, and a penguin party there is something for everyone! We hope to see a lot of Raleigh Hills kids drop by to see what’s happening!
Note: Beaverton City Library will be open all of winter break except on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, and we’re closing early (5 p.m.) on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.
We are hosting our unofficial Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) Practice Battles on Thursday, Jan. 2! OBOB teams can test their knowledge against teams from other schools in a situation much like they may face in the regional/state tournaments. If students from your school want to participate in the library’s practice battles, but their teammates can’t make it, they can still register as individuals, and we’ll place them with a team the morning of the practice battle. Team and individual registration required at www.BeavertonLibrary.org/Register (registration opens Dec. 2)

6th Grade Healthy Snacks Workshop
Our health class wants to host a 3 day workshop meant to inspire and inform teenagers about preparing their own snacks. They'll get to make and enjoy quick pickles, smoothies, and fancy toast with the goal of gaining the knowledge to prepare snacks that are delicious, affordable, nutritious, and informed by sustainable practices. The cost is only $999 and we have a matching grant from New Seasons Market cutting the cost in half!
Every dollar counts and gets us closer to our goal. A donation of $5, $10, or $15 will have double the impact and we only have $310 more to go! Even if you cannot give right now, please share the project on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or whatever social media you are on. The farther and wider we can spread the project, the better for our school! Won’t you please help us and consider donating what you can and sharing with all your friends, families, and networks? We appreciate all you do for our school and helping our kids learn and grow!

Winter Warm Up
Holiday Giving!
It’s that time of year when we come together as a community to spread some holiday cheer! Over the next few weeks, we’ll be gathering items for holiday baskets to give families in our community a little extra boost during the winter season. Here’s how you can help:
Donate items to our Winter Warm Up Drive: From Dec. 3-13, we will be collecting NEW blankets, scarves, hats, gloves and socks (in adult and kid sizes) as well as snacks and treats to fill our holiday baskets. Donation boxes will be located on the stage in the cafeteria.
Donate a $25 WinCo or Fred Meyer gift card: Cards can be dropped off in the office or Krista Orchard’s mailbox.
Sponsor a Holiday Basket: If your family, neighborhood or workplace is interested in sponsoring a basket for a family, we can provide you with information and a list of items to shop for.
If you have questions about our holiday giving or would like to sponsor a basket, please contact Krista Orchard: (503) 356-2166 or krista_orchard@beaverton.k12.or.us
Volunteer Coordinator Message
It's time to announce the Lucky Volunteer for November. Volunteers who have logged 10 or more hours in November have been put into a drawing. And the Lucky Volunteer for November is……….Laura Galbraith! Laura will receive a $5 gift card to her choice of Jamba Juice or Starbucks. Congratulations Laura!
JON FERRIS. Known fondly as “Ferris” by the students, Jon dedicates his time as a retired RHS middle school teacher giving back to the school he loves. Jon’s forte is helping students from 4th grade to 8th grade with their academic challenges. He draws from his skills as a basketball coach to really understand each student’s needs and takes the time to appreciate them where they are at. Although he spends a lot of his volunteer time helping Ms. Wester’s students, he also floats to support our teachers in whatever they need. Let’s give Jon Ferris a SHOUT OUT!
