SHARK SHOUTOUTS
- I wanted to send an enormous THANKS to the junior and senior class advisors (Jackie, Karen, and Jaz), staff volunteers, and Spirit Club for a highly successful Powderpuff game last night. The seniors were victorious by a pretty wide margin, but the good old-fashioned healthy FUN was great to see. -Ms. Jennifer Police

WEEKLY SPORTS SUMMARIES
FIELD HOCKEY
Field hockey had a very successful week. Beating our rivals, Nauset, 2-0 for the second time this season. We had great scoring opportunities from our forwards and a shut out from our defensive line: Bela McMahon, Maddie Silvester, Ella Reeves, Caroline Upson, and Evie Sheeran. Great goals from Caroline DiGiovanni! We had another win on Thursday against Nantucket 5-0. Maddie Silvester scored her first goal and Emily Layton scored another. Caroline racked in another three goals. Great shut out by the defense again. Come out Saturday to see us take on DY! (Caroline Upson, senior captain)
BOYS & GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
The Boy’s Cross Country team had a great victory on Tuesday against the Nantucket Whalers. The Boys sealed the deal with Gareth Vos taking first place, James Machnik taking second place, and Jack Yuskaitis taking fourth place. The Monomoy Boy’s Cross Country team currently has five wins under their belt and only one loss. Overall the runners are showing massive improvement and creating a very strong team to compete against. Keep up the good work boys.
The Monomoy Girl’s Cross Country team had a tough loss on Tuesday against Nantucket. The girls tried their absolute hardest and still had a competitive race. Rhiannon Vos came in second place, Courteney Dery came in third place, and Brynn Dobbs came in seventh place. The girls continually bring their A-game and will continue to bring on the competition. Good job girls, and keep up the amazing work. (Jack Yustaikis, junior captain)
BOYS SOCCER
GIRLS SOCCER
This week girls soccer won 3-0 against Falmouth Academy. Goals by Maddie Crossen, Riley Hesse, and Kenyatta Pigo-Cronin. Great contributions from Grace Ventura. Thursday the girls tied Cape Cod Academy 2-2, with goals scored by Maddie Crossen and Mackenzie Bowers. The defensive line was supported by Darby Carpenter and Lucy Bates. Girls soccer takes on DY tomorrow for their homecoming game at 10 am. Senior night on Tuesday the 19th. Pack the tank! (Lexie Hyora, senior captain)
CHEER
The cheer team is doing extremely well! All the girls are joining together to create a really amazing halftime show for our homecoming and senior night game this Friday. The team is bonding really well and we are trying to focus on creating more intense stunts and conditioning. We are looking forward to competition for the winter season, as we begin to piece together some of the stunts and choreography for that routine. (Sabrina Morand, senior captain)
BOYS GOLF
On 10/12 Monomoy visited Cape Cod Academy. Our score was Monomoy 3 1/2, Cape Cod Academy 2 1/2. The Sharks shot lights out on a rare windless day at the picturesque Hyannisport Golf Course. Impressive win by Casey Huse firing a 39 to put Monomoy over the top. On 10/13 the golf team had a tri-match against Sturgis East and Cape Cod Tech. Our score was Monomoy 4 1/2 Sturgis East 1 1/2, and Sharks 5 1/2 Cape Cod Academy 1/2. Captain Jason Metters had an incredible round on his 18th birthday firing a 37 at Eastward Ho! We finished the season 11-3!!!
SEPTEMBER SCHOLAR ATHLETES
Sabrina Morand
Sabrina Morand is the Captain of the Monomoy Football Cheerleaders. Sabrina is a positive role model and she excels in all of the various aspects of cheerleading from performing, supporting others, and stunting on the sidelines. Just like any other student-athletes, she has a very busy schedule. While taking five AP Classes, English Literature & Composition, European History, Biology, Psychology and Statistics, a member of the National Honor Society she carries a 4.41 GPA and finds time to be involved in her community. Through her involvement in clubs that prioritize community service, it’s instilled in Sabrina to make a difference. Sabrina’s involvement in clubs at Monomoy includes the young women’s club, STEMinist, animal welfare club, and interact club. She also is the third-grade religious education teacher at Holy Trinity, she has kept volunteering at the forefront of her mind. While organizing tasks in different clubs, cheerleading has always served as a place to let go and rest from the stress. She’s helped organize practices, teaching the new upcoming cheerleaders to be team-oriented.
Sabrina loves representing the school. Cheerleaders are an essential part of the school’s environment. It can be nerve-wracking and empowering all at once. Not only do cheerleaders have to be physically and vocally show support for the sports teams, but they also represent them in our communities. Cheerleaders are viewed as ambassadors of the school, there is no other person who represents this more than Sabrina Morand.
Keep up the great work Sabrina, you are making a difference every single day!
