Keeping you Informed
Bobcats,
Goodmorning. I hope everyone is doing well. Just a friendly reminder to take time if you have not to update the weekly assignment tracker. I know that our community really appreciated having that last week and it made it easier for both parents and students to get assignments. Please keep in mind that less is more as you are creating lessons. I will send out a form that you can copy today and adjust to your liking that you can send out to your students to get a feel for the time it is taking them to complete the work assigned. In this environment, we need to gather feedback from students. In a normal classroom environment, we can tell if we are going short or long on an assignment and make the adjustments on the fly but this is still a novel concept to us and the feedback will only help us out.
We will meet today at 3:30 to discuss the grading policy for the remainder of this year while we are in a remote learning setting. Please make sure that you have read the document that was emailed by Dr. Plahy on Friday. Below is a great article about the shift away from traditional grading to a focus on learning. I think it is a good starting point so take some time to review it this week. Jodi Bonk has had experience with this shift as she has really adjusted her own grading practices the last year and a half and I have asked her to share that with anyone interested in a webinar later this week. An invite will be sent out soon.
Campus Closed- Today there was a break into P1 on campus. Due to the community propping gates open, we are now going to be locking the gate by the field house and by P3 with padlocks and restricting all access to campus. If you have a need to get something from your classroom I live close and can come by to open up the school for you. Please don't feel that you're bothering me as I am bored and don't mind getting out. I am sorry I have to do this but I don't want us to have any major damage to school while we are not there.
Elective Registration- Elective registration is open for our students for 2020-21. It will be open from April 14th to April 24th. The application for our application electives is online and will be shared with students. Below is the link to our elective selection page. An email will be going out tonight to parents and students.

YLMS Staff Store- Don't forget Bobcats we have a new online store where you can buy YLMS gear. I have ordered a sweatshirt and polo and the quality of both is very nice. What is nice is you order what you want when you want and then it is shipped to you. No waiting for everyone to buy items. Yorba Linda Middle Gear Store
