New Lake Travis MS principal selected
Superintendent Dr. Brad Lancaster recently announced the selection of Sherry Baker as the new principal of Lake Travis Middle School. Sherry will officially begin her tenure on July 1. As you may recall, she will replace Jodie Villemaire who will serve as the District’s Director of Elementary Learning and Teaching.
"We received and reviewed approximately 100 applications for this position," said Dr. Lancaster. "I have served on numerous interview committees and I can attest we had one of the strongest pools of candidates I have ever seen throughout my tenure as superintendent. Unequivocally, I believe Sherry is the best choice for the Lake Travis Middle School community. This was an important decision for senior staff and me. I want to thank the members of the interview committee, specifically LTMS teachers Beth Young and Raquel Lloreda as well as LTMS PTO representative Melissa Williamson for their outstanding help through this process. This committee unanimously recommended Sherry to me, and my interview with her only confirmed that endorsement."
Sherry is an accomplished instructional leader who possesses more than 20 years of experience in public education. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston and Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University. Sherry began her career in education as an eighth grade math teacher at Dean Middle School in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. After six years in the classroom, she assumed her first position in school administration as an assistant principal at Dean Middle School. Over the next 10 years, Sherry served as Director of Instruction—a campus-based administrative position—for two middle schools in the Cy-Fair district. In 2014, she moved to Tomball ISD where she served as an assistant principal at Tomball Memorial High School. Currently, Sherry is the Principal of Wildwood Elementary School, a campus she opened in 2015. Her husband Jim is the Chief HR Officer at the Hays Consolidated Independent School District.
Mikolaycik named new FANS Director
Assistant Superintendent for Business, Financial and Auxiliary Services Johnny Hill recently announced the promotion of Ryan Mikolaycik as our new Director of Food and Nutrition Services. Ryan replaces Traci Miller who as you may already know accepted a position with food and support services company Compass Group USA.
Ryan possesses more than 15 years of work experience in the hospitality management and food and beverage industries. Most recently, he served as the District’s Assistant Director of Food and Nutrition Services, a position he held since 2013. Working alongside Traci, Ryan helped to improve menu development and food quality within USDA school nutrition guidelines; implement new systems to improve food storage monitoring and reduce food waste, and increase overall program efficiency and profitability.
Ryan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from California State Polytechnic University. He and his wife Amber have two children, Ethan and Emily—both of whom attend Lake Travis Elementary School.
As Director of Food and Nutrition Services at Lake Travis ISD, Ryan manages the food service program and supervises food service operations throughout the district; plans and implements programs that meet regulatory and nutritional requirements for students; promotes the development of nutritional practices and policies; and maintains safe and sanitary kitchens and cafés. And he's a really neat guy too. Lakeway Elementary wishes him the very best in his new position.

A Message from Dr. Lancaster
Between preparing healthy food, adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a smile, our Fuel Café nutrition professionals have a lot on their plates. To celebrate their hard work and commitment to student nutrition, LTISD proudly recognizes May 4 as School Lunch Hero Day.
This day, celebrated annually since 2013, was designated by The School Nutrition Association and Jarrett Krosoczka, author of the “Lunch Lady” graphic novel series. School Lunch Hero Day provides an opportunity for parents, students, school staff and communities to thank those who provide healthy meals to 30 million of America’s students each school day.
The importance and nutritional value of school meals are well documented. For many children, school lunch is the most important and nutrient-rich meal of their day. Our Fuel Cafés serve approximately 8,500 students per day, offering a delicious variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and low-fat milk. All LT cafés consistently earn high, if not perfect, scores on their bi-annual Travis County Health and Human Services Department inspections.
Please join me in thanking our Fuel Café employees for their hard work and dedication to serving our students and staff.
Thank you,
Brad

Leader for Life Presents: Healthy Kids, Strong Community! by Lake Travis ISD - Leader for Life
How can we build a stronger Lake Travis?
One way is to ensure our kids are healthy. LGBTQ kids are one of our most at-risk populations; nationwide, LGBTQ people are 8x more likely to commit suicide and are at a much higher risk for drug abuse and depression when they do not feel accepted by their families and community.
You and your child probably know someone affected:
- 7% of US teens identify as other than heterosexual
- 87% of US adults know someone who is gay
- 7 in 10 American (70%) have a close friend or family member who is gay or lesbian
What is it like to be an LGBTQ student, parent or teacher in our district? How does your child feel about that gay girl or boy in their class? How can you support your relative or neighbor whose child is coming out? What are we doing in Lake Travis ISD to support these families?
If you've ever been curious about these topics, join us for a talk and panel to learn why this has been such a challenging conversation and get simple tips for how we can be allies and build a stronger, inclusive community and school.
