Welcome to the Prairie Point Panther Press!
Principal's Letter
Dear School Families:
This has been a very exciting week at Prairie Point. On Monday, we welcomed our new assistant principal, Mrs. Noelle Fahey. Mrs. Fahey comes to us from the Yorkville School District where she previously served as a 5th grade teacher. During her time in Yorkville, Mrs. Fahey served on the Curriculum Coordinating Council, the Student Handbook Committee, the LEAD Committee as well as having served on various curriculum selection committees. This week, Mrs. Fahey has been making her way around the building and getting into classrooms. She has had the opportunity to meet many of our students and will continue to get to know our community. If you have the opportunity to see Mrs. Fahey around the building or out at drop off or pick up, please take a minute to introduce yourself and welcome her to our great community.
It is hard to believe that we have turned the calendar to December and the first half of the school year is nearly behind us. As we move into this season of giving, I have noticed the many ways that our school and our students support the community. With activities such as making cards for veterans, participating in the district food drive, donating toys to the Kendall County Food Pantry, and collecting hats and mittens for the Oswego Optimist Club our students are engaging in service learning projects that are not only giving back to the community but also providing them with valuable experiences.
We do have a few service projects that are still going on, such as the toy drive and the hat and mitten drive. In addition we are still looking for volunteers to support the Holiday Shop Book Fair on Friday, December 15th from 5pm – 8pm. · Many of our library books have been returned with significant water damage. Please assist your child in protecting our books by keeping water bottles away from books, and by keeping books in gallon-size plastic bags. Students will be charged for damaged books, per district policy.
· Our 4th and 5th graders enjoyed presentations by Illinois author and historian Betty Kay, who visited on November 17th. She portrayed 3 women of the Civil War in her presentation to 5th grade, and took on the persona of Elizabeth Todd Edwards, sister of Mary Todd Lincoln for her presentation to 4th grade. Our thanks to Home and School for their help in making this visit possible.

Prairie Point's Volunteer Picnic
This May, date to be determined, Prairie Point Home and School will be having a volunteer picnic for our volunteers who go above and beyond and earn 3 or more volunteer points. We would like to show our appreciation to our volunteers and allow them to enjoy a picnic lunch with their children. As stated in the school directory, to be a part of the volunteer picnic you will need to earn 3 points. If you have volunteered to be a Committee Chair, you have earned your three points already! If you were unable to be a Committee Chair, you may earn a point by volunteering at the various Home and School events or for the committees, donating items for teacher appreciation and/or attending Home and School meetings. (The meetings are the 1st Thursday of every month.) Unfortunately, volunteering for the classroom teacher is not a part of Home and School and does not earn points. If you have any questions, please contact us at prairiepointhso@gmail.com.
Reading Rewards for your Student(s)
Prairie Point students have the opportunity to earn 30 minutes of free jump time at Sky Zone in Aurora!
Students need to read 5 books on their own or with a parent. Then, they may record the book titles on the Sky Zone provided bookmark (sent home this week via your child's Thursday folder). Students should have their teacher and parent sign the spaces to validate the reading achievement. Once the bookmark is completely filled in, simply bring the bookmark to Sky Zone Aurora to receive one free 30 minute jump pass. Happy reading!
