Welcome to Term 3!
Kia ora koutou e te whānau te Kura o Hato Pirihiti - warm greetings to the St Brigid’s School family! I hope you have had a wonderful school holiday break. I am delighted to have joined the St Brigid’s whānau as Principal / Tumuaki this term.

My name is Jennifer
My family name is Ioannou which is Greek Cypriot as my husband’s parents are from Greece and Cyprus
I have lived in Wellington for many years and Mt Victoria is my mountain
I grew up in Waikanae and Waikanae River is my river
I was born in Canada and many of my family members still live in Canada.
I have shared a little bit about myself and I’m looking forward to getting to know you, too. In the near future, I will be organising opportunities for us to connect together. When we meet I will share more about my background and experience, as well as my vision for St Brigid’s, and also to hear from you what your aspirations are for your children and the school.
Welcome to our new students
We had our whakatau (Māori welcome) on Monday where the new tamariki, staff and myself were welcomed to St Brigid’s School. A big thank you to the staff and tamariki for their wonderful preparation to make the welcome so special and memorable for the newest members of our community.

Sacramental Programme - First Holy Communion
A huge congratulations to all or our students who made their First Holy Communion recently. Both the Masses were so beautiful and we are so proud of each and every one of you and your whanau.
Massive thanks to Kitty and the team for all your hard work, flexibility and dedication.

Confirmation for older students
Call up for older students who have missed out up till now - If you haven’t been confirmed and are a young person or an adult who is interested, please contact Kitty or the parish office and you can be confirmed on Sunday August 7 at 10:30am Mass at SS Peter and Paul’s Johnsonville.
Kitty will arrange a couple of individual or small group meetings beforehand that suit your particular needs/responsibilities. So please call or text Kitty 021491459 if you’re keen for this opportunity.
Message from The Attendance Dues Team
Now that we are sending all invoices/statements by email to families, please contact us if you have changed your email address so that we can update your account. Invoices will still be posted to families without an email address.
The Term 3 invoice will be emailed to all families shortly. Please check that the invoice has not gone to your Spam/Junk Inbox and that all your children are listed on the statement. If you have not received any invoices this year, please contact us.
Financial assistance is available to families experiencing financial hardship (loss of income/redundancy, family reasons, etc.). It is a condition of the assistance application that the family has an affordable regular payment in place.

Netsafe Week 25 July - 29 July for St Brigid’s Community
This year the Netsafe Week theme is Diversity Matters: Online Safety Done Together.
We know it is important to continue to work together as school/home to ensure our tamariki are kept safe online and are practising being positive digital citizens. We would like to share with parents below a document from Linewize (our online safety provider) which gives some good tips for parents to help manage conversations about children’s online behaviour.
Year 5-8 Kiwi Spelling Bee
The University of Canterbury is offering children from Year 5-8 the opportunity to participate in the KIWI Spelling Bee competition. This competition takes place annually and is designed by New Zealand teachers for New Zealand students. The competition is administered by the Centre for Assessment and Monitoring (CAM) at the University of Canterbury. The KIWI Spelling Bee competition assesses aspects of English grammar, spelling and vocabulary relevant to the student’s year level.
The online Spelling Bee will take place in the last three weeks of Term 3.
Certificates will be sent to all participating students and prizes will be awarded to overall top students.
Students will need to have their own headphones/air buds to listen to the audio throughout the competition.

Annual Scholastic Book Fair
You are invited to our Annual Scholastic Book Fair. Every purchase earns points for our school to purchase new books.

Book Character Day Dress up
To celebrate all things books, students are invited to come to school on Friday 5 August dressed up as their favourite book character. Please do not feel pressured to buy a costume, try using hats, clothing and props to create a home made costume.
Scholastic Lucky Book Club - Issue 5
A copy of Issue 5 of the Lucky Book Club brochure which includes a free book offer, will be sent home this week with students. To purchase any books just note the 3-digit code next to the title.
Visit https://mybookclub.scholastic.co.nz/Parent/ClubManagement.aspx, type in the postcode 6037 and find St Brigid's School on the dropdown list, then follow the instructions from there. Orders are to be made by Friday 5 August.
Student Celebrations
Out of 20 competitors in Level 6, she gained awards for 4th in hoop, 6th in ribbon, and placed 6th overall in Rhythmic Gymnastics.

TAWA SQUASH CLUB - TERM 3 JUNIOR PROGRAMME
Monday night coaching begins Monday 1 August - 2 sessions, 4:20 - 5pm, 5pm - 5:40pm. Cost $100 per term, 8 sessions. Run by a qualified club coach.
Junior Club nights begin Friday 5 August. 5pm - 7pm. $5 for non members (first night free), free for members. Run by a qualified club coach. Parents most welcome to stay and observe or relax, food and refreshments available.
Mums N Bubs Thursday mornings 9:30am - 11am. Drop the older kids at school and come and have fun while learning how to play the "Healthiest Sport in the World" (bringing bubs is optional). Safe area for littlies.
In all cases rackets, balls and eyewear are available at the club for loan. Non marking shoes are required.

Kelly Sports Football Skills Term 3
FOOTBALL SKILS TERM 3 - FRIDAYS 3.30PM-4.30PM
Aimed for beginners, an 8 week Football Skills programme held at Wests Rugby Club Rooms, Wilton (In the Green Room!).
Come and learn all things about Football!
This programme covers both individual and team skills including:
Game rules, Ball control, Dribbling, Passing, Tackling, Defence, Team work, Goalkeeping, practice and warm up drills for players and teams.
It is ideal to improve skills and confidence and have lots of fun!!
The sessions start on Friday 4 Aug 2022,
