Knightly Update December 6, 2020
Edition Vol 9 Issue 19
I hope you enjoyed your week and are finding ways to effectively manage the hustle and bustle during this busy time of the year. Speaking of managing the numerous tasks taking place this month, our students received their final exam study guides (or were made aware of their online location) last week to help them to review course material in preparation of upcoming final exams. It is important students not wait to begin preparing for their exams. If they have any questions, they should reach out to their instructors, counselors or administration for assistance.
As you know, there are times that students are forced to quarantine due to circumstances beyond their and our control. If students are forced to quarantine during final exams, they will either take the exam online on the regularly scheduled date of the exam, or upon their return from winter break (if an online exam option is not available). Students will have until Friday, January 15 to make up any missed final exams due to forced quarantine or other excused absence. I realize forced quarantines pose additional frustration and anxiety on our students and teachers, and we will do what we can to assist as appropriate, but circumstances warrant such measures. If you have any questions, please contact me.
If for some reason you need to pick up your student or drop off an item to them during the course of the school day, please drive your vehicle to the front of the administrative building and contact the office (424-8000) when you arrive on campus. A member of the office team will come to your vehicle and have you sign your child out electronically or collect the item(s) that you need to provide to your child. It is important that these guidelines be followed. Do not text and meet your child at a fence to give them any materials. The office team will assist you, we just want to do so in the safest manner possible. Thank you for your attention to established guidelines.
You might be aware that the CDC updated their guidelines (specifically regarding quarantine parameters) earlier this week. Our school is waiting for direction from district officials as to how these updates will be implemented. Once direction has been provided, I will communicate any changes with the school community. I appreciate your patience and understanding.
I hope you have a very nice week. If you or your child has any questions or concerns, please contact me. Thank you for being a part of our school. Take care.
Rob Bickes
Principal

Class of 2022 to take Civics Exam
This week, ACP will be administering the state-required Civics Exam to the members of the junior class. This exam is a requirement and must be completed prior to graduation. A review guide for this exam is available on our school's website and is included below.
The Civics Exam will be delivered in the student's history class throughout the week of December 7. Ms. Bunch (US History, APUSH) and Ms. Lee (US History) will be administering the exam. The test will last approximately 60-90 minutes. Students will receive immediate feedback (i.e., pass or fail) upon completion of the exam.
If a student is absent on the day of the test, arrangements will need to be made with both the counseling department and teacher. If a student believes they passed the Civics Exam at a previous school, a letter or score report needs to be submitted to the counseling department and registrar. If you have any questions, please feel free to email the counseling department.

When are final exams being administered?
Students will take their final exams on Wednesday, December 16 and Thursday, December 17. Final exams for periods 1, 3 and 5 will be given on Wednesday and 2nd, 4th, and 6th period exams will be administered on Thursday. Zero hour exams will be administered on the day(s) assigned (Wednesday and/or Thursday) by the instructor. Students will be dismissed at 12:25 on both Wednesday & Thursday. There is no school on Friday, December 18.
How long will class period be on final exam days?
Class sessions are 90 minutes long. Students will have a five minute passing period between classes. Please feel free to send snacks with your child for them to eat during passing periods. Food is not permitted in the classroom. In addition, no lunch will be served on final exam days.
What if my child doesn't complete their final exam in the allotted time?
Students need to be prepared to complete their exam in the time allotted. Many college admission exams as well as upcoming AP exams are timed and students are required to complete the exam within the provided timeline. ACP's final exams are structured in the same manner. Students will not be given additional time to complete an exam once the period has concluded. If your child has any concerns, please have them speak with their instructor prior to the exam date.
What if my child is absent on the day of finals?
No early examinations will be allowed. In the event your child is absent or out-of-town, they will need to make up their final exam within the first two weeks of our return from winter break. Your child's final exam score will be a zero until they make-up the exam. Once the exam has been taken, their final exam grade will be entered and their semester grade changed appropriately. This change will be reflected via Infinite Campus.
What if my child is forced to be quarantined on the day of finals?
Students who are forced to be quarantined will take their exams online, if an online option is available. If an online option is not available, students will need to make up their final exam within the first two weeks of our return from winter break. The final exam score will be a zero until they make-up the exam. Once the exam has been taken, their final exam grade will be entered and their semester grade changed appropriately. This change will be reflected via Infinite Campus.
How should my child prepare for their finals?
Teachers have prepared study guides that review the material being tested. Students will have study guides for all of their classes next month. Students should use the study guide provided to prepare and review for their final exam. If your child doesn't understand the material or concepts on the study guide, please encourage them to speak to their teacher. Prior to receiving their study guide, students should begin to review notes and organize information necessary to review for finals. Research recommends students study in chunks of 45 minutes followed by 15 minute breaks.
Final Exam Tip of the Week
Create Flashcards. One of the top study tips for high school & college students includes rewriting important facts, concepts, and definitions on flashcards. Flashcards also let you quiz yourself without the help of others. Digital flashcards and study apps are another way to organize and review the material.
