Principal's Message

Dear Jackie Robinson K-8 Community,

A year ago we all received the same message, schools were going into closure due to COVID-19. I clearly recall saying goodbye to our students and it is amazing to think it has been so long since our students have been able to walk through our hallways. At the time we didn't know the impact COVID-19 would have on our students, friends and families.

After a year of living with the pandemic, we have learned to be flexible and understand that communication is constantly changing. I appreciate your understanding now more than ever as we begin our overall plans to safely bring our staff and students back on campus.

With two weeks remaining before in-person learning begins, I want to encourage you to remain connected with the messages and opportunities you will have to listen and learn of the details of our planned reopening. The upcoming weeks will be filled with new learning, frequent communication up-briefs, and the need to keep making adjustments. The planned reopening is grounded on the safety of all. We have a responsibility to one another to follow all guidelines to ensure a successful reopening.

Thank you to the approximately 120 families that joined me for my Elementary and Middle School Principal Community Zoom Meetings last week. I appreciate your interest and the level of engagement. Many great questions were asked and I look forward to my meeting with you this week on Thursday, March 18 to provide you more detailed information.

1. Elementary Reopening - March 29, 2021, marks our upcoming ELEMENTARY campus re-opening and it is four weeks away. Know that we are hard at work ensuring that Robinson follows district guidelines that are in accordance with the California Department of Health guidelines for COVID safety. I invite you to join me for the next Principal Zoom Meeting @ 4:00pm on 3/18/21 to help answer questions you may have to help prepare for our reopening plans.

2. Middle School Reopening - April 20, 2021, is when our school will open for our MIDDLE SCHOOL students. In order to be able to make that happen, we need all Middle School parents to complete a survey to decide if they want in-person vs online instruction. This survey will be available to you through the remainder of this week. Please complete it ASAP.

3. Middle School Minimum Day Schedules- These will continue on Wednesdays and Thursdays for middle school planning, with 1:00 dismissal.

4. Support from Nursing Services- Our district's Nursing Services has prepared these health guidelines to prepare your child for returning to in-person instruction. Note that it states that students will be allowed to bring water bottles, as water fountains will be closed for COVID safety until further notice: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CmgF4aybyYc4I-Af8jM2qIoUC0j6YBcKckqHobbacic/edit?usp=sharing.

5. CORE Culture/Climate Survey- Don't forget to respond to the email from Panorama Education in order to represent Robinson in the district feedback for all of our school sites. Thank you to all who have responded already! Deadline is March 19.

Thanks again for all of your support to have our students remain connected and engaged with us!

Sincerely,

Salvador Madrigal

Principal

Atentamente,

Salvador Madrigal

Director

School Uniforms

We have great news! Operation School Bell is in the process of preparing the uniform orders for those students who were fitted at the beginning of the school year. The uniforms are scheduled to arrive by March 29, 2021. Once they arrive, we distribute them to the students who have chosen Hybrid/In-Person Instruction. If your child is in need of uniform support and did not get fitted at the beginning of the year, please let your child’s classroom teacher know.

Attendance Matters: School starts at 8:00 am for K-8 students. Increasing student attendance is crucial to improving academic achievement. We strive to reach the 97% rate with your help and support. Please ensure that students are engaged in learning, are completing assignments on time, and are staying in touch with teachers.

How can parents support good attendance?

*Establish a routine for bed time and for the morning for your child

*Check on your child’s attendance regularly (ParentVue)

*Encourage your child to log in to CANVAS account, participate and engage unless he/she is truly sick

*Call the school and provide notes when your child is absent

LIBRARY READING CORNER

  1. Please remind your students and families that there will be curbside library checkout this Wednesday at lunch and after school between 11-12:30 and 2-2:45 in front of the school. In addition to library checkout, I also have free (new) books to distribute to students.
  2. I recently bought a great picture book about Title IX, was inspired, and got carried away, so here is another virtual/exploratory library you can share that ties in with Women's History Month.
  3. Please post my linktree: https://linktr.ee/misswill in your Canvas. This is a one-stop shop where students can locate all library resources and materials.
  4. Stay tuned for our hybrid library schedule. I am working on it this week and will be providing you with buttons to place in your Canvas course, as well as the Zoom link which students will be using.
