Device and School Supply Distribution
We have more school supplies to distribute to 1st through 5th grade students. We also had technical difficulties with scanning devices out to students. We ask that you come to school so we can rescan each child's device and then you can collect your child's extra school supplies (1st-5th grades). We ask that all families, including kindergarten, come to have their device rescanned please. Please bring all iPads, chromebooks, and hotspots. The schedule will be as follows;
Wednesday, September 9th, 6:00pm -7:00 pm
Thursday, September 10th, 6:00pm -7:00 pm
Saturday, September 12th, 10:00 am-11:00 am
Attendance
Although school schedules continue to reflect the COVID-19 pandemic, daily school attendance returns to being mandatory per California Department of Education (CDE).
Attendance will be taken daily by each teacher during the live-virtual Cohort instructional period. This information will be entered into Q SIS Student Information System (Q-SIS).
Additionally, CDE and Ventura County Office of Education (VCOE) requires teachers to monitor student engagement during the overall instructional day and this engagement will also be entered into Q-SIS daily
Engagement tracking will include participation in live-virtual instruction as well as the submission of reinforcement activities, assignments and practice
Engagement tracking may also include correspondence between students/parents and the teacher
If a student is not present for the live-virtual Cohort instruction and does not submit corresponding assignments, the student will be marked absent.
Parents/guardians please continue to notify your child’s school site office of any absences and the reason for absence
If a student has multiple absences within a school week, and after efforts are made to engage with the student/family and to ensure that the student has access to all they need in order to engage, the School Attendance Review Board (SARB) procedures will be implemented.
In order for attendance to be accurately marked, the student’s full first and last names shall be used for their Zoom accounts and other school-based accounts.
Students will be expected to submit their work through SeeSaw or Google Classroom per teacher due dates or through other means as defined by the teacher.
Grading
As we initiate the 2020/21 school year, teachers will return to assigning grades consistent with traditional practices prior to school closure that initiated on March 13, 2020.
Teachers will communicate their expectations for earning specific grades within the class with students and parents/guardians.
Progress reports and report cards will be completed and made available to families at the regular grade-span specific intervals.
New Office Hours
Please note that our front office is open between 10:00 - 1:00 PM or by appointment. For questions or to schedule an appointment, please contact Cindy Perez at (805)986-8730 ext. 2695 or Norma Bolish at (805)986-8730 ext. 2694.
Setting up a Learning Location
To the extent possible, identify a designated space in the home that will limit distractions.
Organize learning materials (e.g. paper, books, pencils, etc.) in one location where you can have quick access during live-virtual instruction.
If you are in need of any additional school supplies, please let your teacher and site administrator know. We are happy to support these needs.
Write down all of your login information (e.g. usernames and passwords) and keep it in a location where you can quickly access.
Remember to plug in your devices so they are fully charged and ready to use.
If you are in need of technology support, please submit your request using the HESD Technology Department’s Helpdesk. For more urgent support, contact the Help Desk Hotline available Monday-Friday at 805-946-0180.
When you have your camera on during live-virtual instruction, your background will be visible to your classmates and teachers. We respectfully request that backgrounds are basic and free from distractions, for example a plain wall rather than seeing posters or other backgrounds that will take away from the learning opportunities for the entire class.
If you have any concerns regarding privacy and therefore do not want your camera on, please share your concerns directly with your teacher so that we can support you in continuing to access the instruction and engagement with your classmates.
