STANWOOD HIGH SCHOOL
FAMILY UPDATE FOR WEEK OF DECEMBER 5TH, 2022
SHS VISION STATEMENT
Stanwood Spartans are united in cultivating character, modeling respect, teaching leadership and connecting to community.
Supporting Student Success:
Our teachers work hard to support students academically everyday. Partnering with students and parents/guardians in this work is very important. We have two more weeks before winter break and six school weeks before the end of 1st semester. Supporting students in staying caught up on their work and turning in any missing assignments is very important not only for student learning, but also in maintaining grades that will earn credits towards graduation.
Below are some steps you can take at home to support students academically:
- Review any missing assignments with your student by having your student login to their Skyward account. Locate the missing work and support your student in completing it. You may reach out to teachers with any questions you have.
- Review assignments with low scores and have students ask their teachers how they can redo an assignment or retake an assessment to show their new learning to earn a better grade.
- Arrange a time for students to get additional time and support from their teacher.

The first mental and behavioral health 988 crisis line in the nation tailored for Native and Indigenous people, run by an all-Native team, went live in early November. This service is a part of the existing 988 hotline. Callers have the ability to press 4 to be connected with a counselor who is knowledgeable about the trauma and traditions of Native and Indigenous peoples of Washington state.

STUDENT CLOSED CAMPUS REMINDER
Reminder for students:
Please remember that SHS is a closed campus. Students must stay in designated areas at all times and this includes during the lunch hour. Sitting in cars or leaving campus during anytime of the school day is not allowed.
ANNUAL ACTION PLAN
This past week the administrative team and Dr. Rumbaugh conducted classroom visits looking at note-taking strategies. We noticed that a majority of teachers were utilizing note-taking strategies that were reviewed in October. We observed students using their notes as a way to review for upcoming assessments or to complete assignments.
The next staff training on December 14th will cover student engagement strategies.

Check your Destiny account for library book due dates. You can self-renew books- check out the how-to-renew video or visit the Destiny Catalog here.
