Principal's Update

November 3, 2023

Big picture

Happy Friday Wolves!

What a busy and exciting week we've had at Ridges! Between field trips, harvest parties and a half day, our schedules have been different, but the smiles we've seen this week make it all worth it! A big thank you to all our volunteers that made this week so much fun for our students!

Just a reminder that Sunday is the end of daylight saving time. Don't forget to set your clocks back an hour.

Hope you get some extra rest this weekend,

Miranda

Release of Information- Photo Permission

In order to complete our yearbook, and other school related updates with student photos, we would like to ensure our student release of directory information is up to date. Directory information means those items of personally identifiable information contained in a student education record which are not generally considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if released. This could include photos of school events, yearbook photos, updates of student achievements in school newsletters, etc.

Under Sherwood School District 88J Policy JOA, directory information shall be released only with administrative direction and directory information considered by the district to be detrimental will not be released. Sherwood school district has parents update this information three times during a student's time in SSD. Once when entering Kindergarten, once when entering 6th grade, and once when entering 9th grade. Of course a parent can change or modify their wishes any time within a school year.

All students and families have the opportunity to opt out of Directory Information and to not allow their information to be released. Please complete this opt out form if you do NOT approve the release of your child’s directory information. Student directory information will be released with the absence of this Opt-Out form.

Fun Run Movie Night- November 9th

Our amazing PAC will be hosting our Fun Run movie night prize on Thursday, November 9th! The movie that will be shown is Super Mario Bros. Please note that this movie is rated PG, and by bringing your family to movie night you agree to participate in a PG rated movie. This is not a drop off event and all students will need to be accompanied by a parent or another adult. Popcorn will be sponsored by Bull Mountain Orthodontics and candy will be provided for free as a part of the Fun Run prize. Families are welcome to bring water bottles if they like, and there will also be some water available for purchase. Families are also welcome to bring a blanket or pillows to sit on during the movie. The Laurel side entry will be the only entrance to movie night, and doors will open at 6:00 pm. The movie will begin at 6:30 pm.

Holiday Support

As the holidays approach, please note that families interested in receiving additional financial or food support from our community partners during the holiday season need to complete both the 2023-2024 Oregon Household Meal application and the SHARE Center Release of Information form, which allows the Sherwood School District to share information with our local community programs. The deadline to complete this process for inclusion in holiday relief programs is today, Friday November 3rd.

To access these forms or for more information, please click here to visit our website. Printed copies of forms are also available at all school offices, the District Office, and in the SHARE Center lobby. Please contact our District SHARE Center at (503) 828-5085 if you have any questions or need support completing the forms.

If your family is in need of holiday support, but you do not qualify for free/reduced school meals, please email Mrs. Johnson at mmjohnson@sherwood.k12.or.us for additional options.

Celebrating Ridges Staff

Did you have an exceptional experience with one of our staff members this month? We would love to hear about your experience and help celebrate that staff member. Families, staff members, or students are invited to nominate any member of the Ridges staff to be recognized at our monthly staff meeting! The form for nominations can be found linked here.

Coffee With the Principal

On November 9th, Mrs. Johnson will be hosting Coffee with the Principal from 8:00-8:45 am in the Ridges Community Room. Coffee and snacks will be provided, and our hope is that this can be a regular event throughout the year! Families are invited to join us for an informal gathering that will allow parents to ask questions, share their thoughts, and learn more about our school. If you have younger siblings, they are welcome to join. We will have some toys and coloring pages available for them. To RSVP for Coffee with the Principal, please complete the form linked here.

Candy Buy-Back

Donate your extra Halloween candy to help our school earn cash! Now through the end of the day on November 9th, drop off your extra Halloween candy in the designated container in our school office vestibule. Wilson Orthodontics will “buy back” our candy by giving our school $1 per pound and a $100 bonus if we collect 50+ pounds. In addition, the school that donates the most candy will earn a $500 bonus and the 2nd place school will earn a $300 bonus! We would love your help to win one of these amazing bonuses!

Paper Towel Tubes Needed for STEM

It's paper towel tube season again, and probably again later on. Ms Phillips and Mr. Evers will gladly accept paper towel tube donations for an upcoming 1st/2nd project. Students can drop them off in either STEM lab. We don't need any TP tubes though, just paper towel tubes.

Ridges PAC

Our parent volunteer group is a very important part of our school. Get connected with the Ridges PAC today! Visit the link here to see upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and other ways to get involved and be connected.

All volunteers will need to complete and have an approved background check on file prior to volunteering (this must be renewed each school year). The background check process can take 7-10 business days, so please allow sufficient processing time if you are planning to volunteer for a specific event.

The Ridges PAC meets on the first Tuesday of each month from 7-8:30 pm in the Ridges Community Room. They would love to have any and all parents attend!
