Important Chromebook Collection Information
Student Chromebooks, cases and chargers must be turned in on the following dates and will be locked for use if not returned. Exceptions will be made for students who have to complete a make-up SOL test. The schedule for device collection is as follows:
Seniors - Wednesday, May 25 prior to graduation practice (8:45 - 9:30 am)
Sophomores - Wednesday, June 1
Juniors - Thursday, June 2
Freshmen - Friday, June 3
Cost for missing items (make checks payable to JHHS):
Chromebook - $200
Charger - $25
Case - $20
Payment can also be made at SchoolCash Online and the payment receipt shared at collection for verification.
SOL Dates for this year:
May 23: History
May 24: Science
May 25: Math
May 26: Reading
On those dates we will run a 3 hour delay schedule. Only students that are testing should be at school at the regular time. All other students should report to school by 11:20. Buses will run a route in the morning for testers and then a route 3 hours later for non testers. Students testing will receive their testing location from their teacher. Parents of testers have received a letter in the mail with details. The schedule for these days is:
Block 1: 11:25 - 12:01
Block 2: 12:06 - 12:43
Block 3: 12:48 - 2:34
A Lunch: 12:48-1:18
B Lunch: 1:23-1:53
C Lunch: 2:04 - 2:34
Block 4: 2:39 - 3:15
Makeup and retake SOL's will take place on the following dates with a regular bell schedule:
May 27: Makeups
May 31: History Makeups and Retakes
June 1: Science Makeups and Retakes
June 2: Math and Reading Makeups and Retakes
June 3: All Makeups and Retakes
If your student needs extra assistance they can attend the following "SOL Jam Sessions." These are available after school from 3:15-4:15 and Saturdays from 9AM-12.

Class of 2022 Senior Parents!
Hello JHHS Class of 2022 Senior Parents,
After much discussion, it was decided to cancel the Cinco de Mayo fundraiser on May 5, 2022. Although it could have generated all of the funds needed for the senior events, it was a laborious task with limited time to execute. Therefore, we created a sign up genius that will allow anyone to volunteer for an event and/or donate food, gift certificates or make a monetary contribution to help defray costs for both the scavenger hunt and pool party.

If you have offered to solicit a business, you may still pursue this, but rather than ask for a basket; a gift certificate or monetary donation would be greatly appreciated. If you have already collected items for the basket fundraiser, please drop off your item at JHHS, attention Cosmo Balio during school hours. If that is not convenient you are welcome to reach out to one of us to arrange a drop off outside of school. Any donations collected already for the baskets will still be utilized as items for door prizes at the pool party or we are considering putting an online auction. Please drop off all donations by Friday, May 20th.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics commercial and residential building construction is expected to drive employment growth, and job opportunities for HVACR technicians are expected to be good.
What type of work do HVAC Installers and Service Technicians do?

Library News
SENIORS: All library books are now overdue. If a book is lost, please make arrangements to pay for the book. Your library account must be clear before graduation.
UNDERCLASSMEN: All library books and fines for lost books are due by May 27, 2022.
We want you to keep reading even after all books are returned. The Handley Regional Library is one option. Click here to apply for a card, then go to our beautiful public library to pick it up and check something out.
The FREE Sync Audiobook program is another option. SYNC is a free summer audiobook program for teens 13+. SYNC gives participants two thematically paired audiobooks each week through August. Click here for more information.
Counseling News
Summer Economics and Personal Finance Course is Available
John Handley High School is offering rising 10-12th graders Economics and Personal Finance as an online course for the summer of 2022. This will enable students to receive first time credit for this required course at home (or at the beach) this summer. This course is designed to meet the graduation requirement that each student must complete.
This online course is designed as self-paced and auto-graded instruction. The material includes interactive graphics and myriad interactions and assessments that enrich the learning experience.
As this course is self-directed, the student must be self-motivated and able to fulfill the requirements without direct teacher assistance. A teacher will be available via email to explain some of the material and to provide assistance navigating the on-line program.
Students will have from June 4, 2022 until August 4, 2022, to complete the course (no exceptions).
The cost for the online course is $140.00. Checks should be made payable to John Handley High School. A sliding scale is available for students who are eligible for Free/Reduced lunch. Registration and payment must be received by the JHHS Counseling Office by June 1, 2022 in order to be enrolled in this course. Here is the required form.

AP Exams are here!
The information below is only for those students who are registered to take an AP Exam this spring.
1. What to bring, and what not to bring to the testing rooms.
2. Date, time, and location of each AP
3. CollegeBoard's calculator policy. Calculators are only allowed for certain exams. Students must supply their own calculators - JHHS will not be providing them.
4. AP Exam Terms and Conditions - on test day you will sign that you agree to these terms and conditions. Please review and let your AP Teacher know if you have any questions.
Students with an afternoon testing session must eat A lunch.
Late arrival to the testing room is not permitted.
For afternoon testing, please be aware there is the chance that exams could run past the 3:15 pm dismissal time. This means you will either need to arrange for your own transportation or take the activity bus that departs at 4:15 pm. Asking to leave the exam early for sports' practice or to go to work will not be allowed.
For those that previously requested a Late Test date, you will be notified in a future email of those days, times, and locations.
Students approved for accommodations based on their 504 Plan or IEP will be notified separately of your testing location.

Loaner Chromebooks
Loaner Chromebooks have moved to the library. Please see the following procedures for borrowing a Chromebook.
If you forget your Chromebook, you will need to pick up a loaner in the library BEFORE school starts or as soon as you arrive from the EGSIC in the afternoon.
You should NOT return the loaner at the end of each block, but instead keep it until 3:00 or until leaving for the EGSIC in the afternoon.
We do not have loaner CHARGERS. Please ask your teacher if they have a charger you may borrow while in their classroom. If not, you will need to come to the library to borrow a Chromebook.
Losing your loaner privileges:
You may not check out a loaner more than 9 times per quarter. You will need to get in the habit of bringing the chromebook that was issued to you.
If you fail to return the loaner to the library at the end of the day 3 times in one quarter, including leaving the device unattended or in a teacher’s classroom, you will not be allowed to borrow a Chromebook for the remainder of the quarter.
If you lose a loaner Chromebook or damage it in any way, you will be held financially responsible for replacement of the device, and you will not be allowed to borrow another Chromebook until this has been taken care of.
Handley Parking Permits
Students are permitted to park on school premises as a matter of privilege, not of right. If you are going to be driving to school for the 2021-2022 school year and parking in the Handley parking lot, you must obtain a parking permit. Below you will find instructions on how to register your car and obtain a parking permit.
Vehicle’s year, make, model, & color
License plate number, Driver’s license number, & owner of the car
Paying for and receiving your parking permit
See the school treasurer (main office) to pay the $25 parking fee.
Take the receipt to the main office administrative assistants, and they will assign you a parking space and give you a parking permit.
Last: Hang the parking permit from your rear view mirror
The parking permit must be visible.
The permit will have a number on it. That number is your assigned spot for the year.
You may only park in your assigned spot during school hours. If you fail to park in your spot or break any parking lot rules, you may lose your privilege to park in the lot and on school property.
