Personalized Learning Updates
This year has been one of exciting growth as we launched the expansion phase of our Personalized Learning Initiative! Over the last several months we have been working with our 8th grade PL cohort to develop the strategies that work best for our students!
The organization Education Elements has great resources that are helpful in understanding how PL ensures that classrooms are student-centered. Using the CORE 4, we can focus our efforts and start to measure the level of implementation around PL in our school district. This month we will begin engaging in "Learning Walks" throughout Harding to help us determine the level of PL happening throughout our classrooms and how we can continue to move our work forward.
Our Ohio School Improvement grant will support the expansion of PL into grades 6 & 7 next year, as well as, a redesign of our Design Lab with specific pathways for students.

The 8th grade students spent time reading to kindergarten classes at McKinley for Read Across America in order to honor Dr. Seuss. His birthday is March 2!! (photos below)

What are Learning Walks?
Learning walks are a great way for schools to determine how change initiatives are working. The primary purpose of Learning Walks are to observe instructional practices and encourage reflection on how we are doing and how we can improve.
Administrators walk through the building and make observations about the various practices that are happening in classrooms. Teachers can also take learning walks and make observations and get new ideas through collaboration.
Learning walks help develop of a culture of inquiry and research, characterized by collaborative learning and reflective practice. They help teachers and administrators focus on classroom practices, instruction, and student learning experiences through the lens of personalized learning!
