Open Court Training for New Users

The Midwest Regional ESC, Upper Scioto Valley Schools, and McGraw Hill invite districts utilizing the Open Court Reading series to send any new users to the following event. *Registration Fee Required
Event Date: February 4, 2020 (Advance Registration is Required - Space is Limited)
Target Audience & Overview
AUDIENCE: Classroom teachers and other district personnel utilizing McGraw Hill's Open Court Reading series that meet one of the following criteria: (1) the employee was unable to attend initial training at their home district; OR (2) the staff member wishes to attend the initial OCR training for a second time.
- No Open Court Reading materials or subscriptions will be provided at this professional development event. **The training will focus on use of materials already in the teachers possession as a current user of the program.
Publisher Overview of Open Court Reading: A research-based comprehensive K–5 reading, writing, and language arts program, Open Court Reading (OCR) aligns with what we know about how students learn to read. Using systematic, explicit instruction, this program helps all students master the foundational skills needed not only to move to proficiency, but also to achieve greater goals of reading independently with confidence inside and outside the classroom.
During this workshop, Kathy Ruby, M.Ed., McGraw-Hill Curriculum Consultant & Open Court Specialist will provide/discuss the following information:
- An Overview of Open Court Reading (OCR)
- Differentiating Instruction within OCR – Workshop
- Provided Materials (Whole Group and Workshop)
- Understanding the Sound/Spelling Cards
- Understanding the Key Instructional Routines for Open Court Reading for Grades K-5
- OCR Lesson Flow (Green, Red, Blue)
- Technology Tools & Resources

ATTENTION TO DETAILS - IMPORTANT INFORMATION
What time should I arrive at the training site? Please arrive 15 minutes early to each session to complete the check-in process. Please enter through the main entrance and check-in with the Office before proceeding to the Board Room.
Food & Beverage: Bottled water and assorted breakfast bars will be available at the beginning of the session. While coffee or other food will not be served, participants are free to bring snack items for themselves or to share with the group. Please plan accordingly…..
What You Should Bring? Participants should bring a laptop, note taking materials, and writing utensils with them to the session.
Our Cancellation Policy - Cancellations must be received by January 30th for this event. Cancellations received outside of this policy will not be accepted. Attendees and/or employing districts will be billed accordingly.
