Sayings from Skinner
News You Can Use
(Send Sarah anything YOU'd like to see included here!!)
1) Kudos, Congratulations, and Other Matters of Good News:
Kudos to the Counselors, the Advisement Team, the PBIS Committee, and the Faculty Senate Reps for all the prep. work that went into presentations during Grade Level/Connections meetings on Friday --- they were all clear, informative, and well presented -- you all TRULY help our school stay on track!!
Kudos to the fabulous Clerical Team, who have been jumping in and tackling many challenging situations with enrollment, new students, issues of non-working phones and internet interruptions -- and have continued doing it all with smiles and "customer friendliness"!!! You all truly set the stage for our community -- THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO!!!
KUDOS to the many folks who have stepped up to new opportunities (like the upcoming PBL training with GA Tech), to new ways of "plugging in" (sponsoring clubs, teams, and activities, and to all the teamwork that's happening across Radloff. Great role modeling for the kids!!!
Keep the good news items, kudos, and thank you's coming!!! Just email them to Sarah
2) eClass Excitement!
LOVE all the exciting ideas being shared by faculty -- keep those going around -- and if you have ones you want to highlight in Week at a Glance -- let Sarah know!
8th grade LA and MA CATs met together this past week to look at ways to import great content from the Sample Course Pages -- so that they could quickly provide many assignments and opportunities for learning for their students via eClass. (Lots of good learning coming from Amanda on Friday to help all of us get "up to speed" and help our kids have greater opportunity to employ and hone their use of technology to enhance their learning.)
7th grade MA CAT had some great conversation about the use of "plickers" to engage students. A number of folks are using these in various ways and with great success -- make sure you are sharing the cool ways that technology enhances engagement with your students!!
3) Supervision, Duty, and YOUR Role and Responsibility
AM Tutoring: Thanks to all who were actively engaged with students this past week; we need to be reaching out to parents to have them bring students in when additional support is needed --- also, remember that each teacher should have two mornings/times for tutoring each week (one on Wednesday and one at the teacher's discretion). Remember, too, that many students are coming in daily and in the media center from 7:30 a.m. on -- Ms. Connell is there to facilitate the "study hall" and make sure kids are engaged in academic work -- see her if some of your students have things they could do for you there!
Silent Transition/Hallway Supervision: THANKS to everyone who is very active in helping kids move quietly and quickly from location to location. It's been awesome watching the moves between classes as well as to and from Connections. Y'all are being incredibly visible -- and it's setting a wonderful tone!
AM/PM Duty Stations -- When you are on duty in the AM or PM, please DO NOT have your computer with you. If something should "happen," the laptop (or cart) becomes a liability. You will need to be able to react quickly. Also, no two people should be in the exact same spot -- please spread out so that there are adults throughout the building, able to monitor all areas -- and spread across the highly-trafficked areas (see Mr. Moore if you need clarification about what you should specifically be doing).
4) 9:30 - 10:00 -- This Week and Beyond
A) Radloff Reads Summer Reading Groups
Summer Reading Book Groups will continue to meet M-Th. of this week. Products -- connected to students' reading--should be completed and displayed by Thursday afternoon, so that parents may view these during Curriculum Night. All book leaders should make sure to provide a grade/score to each student's LA teacher, based on the work produced and the participation each student showed during the time in these book groups. Make sure these scores are to LA teachers no later than the end of the day Monday, August 31st.
B) Specialty Advisement Lists:
These were due to Mary Ann Propes (copied to Brian Howe) on this past Friday. Please get them to her immediately, so she can have all Advisements populated for the "kick-off" this Friday.
C) ELT groups:
Rosters need to be to Mary Ann Propes (copied to Brian Howe) no later than Tuesday, August 25) -- make sure to specify WHO the teacher will be and whether the section will be literacy or numeracy. We begin ELT on Monday, August 31 -- she the ELT rep. at your grade level with any questions!!!
