The ACS Beginning Teacher Roundup
for August/September 2018
ASHEVILLE CITY SCHOOLS
We believe in the #THEACSWAY: We are 1 District, 1 Vision, 1 Voice!
Welcome to Asheville City Schools
Dr. Dickerson, the former Director of Human Resources, has stepped into the Assistant Superintendent role for Asheville City Schools. As part of the transition, I will be taking on his human resource responsibilities, and I could not be more excited to be working with the beginning teacher program. I will be supporting and collaborating with you as you complete your beginning teacher process. My role is to provide you with support, appropriate professional development, and ensure that you have a mentor. I am extremely excited to be supporting you in your journey.
We are still in the process of hiring staff and the beginning teacher list has been influx. I know that several of the teachers new to our district are still waiting to receive communication from the NC Department of Public Instruction in reference to years of service. Please keep in mind it can take them up to 60 days to respond. As we receive information from NCDPI, we will update our list to reflect your BT status.
I want to share a little about my educational background with you. I have been an educator in the great state of North Carolina for 19 years. The majority of my career has been in Asheville City Schools where I have served as a teacher, an assistant principal, principal, and at central services as a member of the human resource team. I will share more about my education journey with you at our first meeting.
I hope your first week of school is filled with learning, laughter, and most importantly relationship building. Relationships are the key component to student success.
Again, I look forward to working with all of you this year and in the years to come.
Wishing you the best!

Final thoughts . . .
As I get into your classrooms, I will be using the newsletter (as well as Twitter) to share with you the amazing learning taking place in your classrooms. I am eager to see all of you in action. I know the first week of school is super busy trying to get students into a routine, collecting forms, answering parent calls/emails, bus schedules, bell schedules, assemblies, and don't forget teaching. I recognize the last thing you need is the BT coordinator showing up the first week. So, I am going to give you this week to get settled, and I will be out and about next week to visit you.
However, remember if you need me this week, I am a phone call away and can be there in a few minutes to assist and support. If you need someone to come and help you collect forms in the morning this week, or help make sure kids get on buses give me a shout. I am your person.
