White tigers are usually found in grasslands and dense jungles. They use the tall grass to hide themselves when stalking prey. Did you know white Bengal tigers are one of the two species of cats that can swim? These felines use water to get/swim away from predators.
There are many organizations that want to save white tigers from becoming extinct. Already, several hundred of these cats are captive worldwide. Right now, there is only 200 white tigers left that aren't in zoos, sanctuary's, or any other place that might want a beautiful animal. Poachers kill any kind of tiger for their furs. A poacher is a person who trespasses on private property to catch fish or game (meat). Some protection services for white tigers are the Feline Conservation Federation, Big Cat Rescue, TofTigers, and Pride Rock.
White Bengal Tiger Looks
This type of cat has a pink nose, white to creme colored fur and black, grey or chocolate stripes. White Tiger eyes are usually blue, but may be a green or amber color. Their stripes are like fingerprints, no two are alike. Tiger stripes are not only on their fur, but are also stained on their skin. So if you decided to shave a tiger, you would still see stripes. To show happiness, tigers squint or close their eyes. These "big cats" have color vision just like humans.
Contrary to what people think, white tigers are NOT a separate species of a cat, but just a mutant/albino version of the orange Bengal Tiger. These cats are fully grown at 2-3 years of age. Aren't they so cute as babies? Tigers have antiseptic, or purifying, saliva. They lick their wounds to disinfect them. Did you know a group of tigers is called an ambush or a streak? On another note, the average white tiger sleeps 16 to 18 hours a day. Talk about lazy! But there is a reason to why tigers sleep so long, they are mostly nocturnal. Meaning they hunt down prey during the night. White tigers have keen eyesight and sharp hearing, which can be pretty useful when it's dark outside.
