Prestwick LEarns: Beginning of Year MAP tests coming home 10/8 and tutorials
MAP Growth is a computer adaptive test created by NWEA that kids take three times per school year. The results provide teachers with information to help them deliver appropriate content for each student and determine each student’s academic growth over time. The video at this link has more information as well.
Our campus uses it to ensure growth of each of our learners. Student become familiar with their RIT (ready for instruction today) score and set goals for each administration. It is about individual growth. Please don't hesitate to ask questions that you have about MAP.
These reports sent home this week will be further explained to parents at parent/teacher conferences in grades K-5. Be sure you have signed up for your time if you wish to participate.
It will also be shared by students in grades 6-8 at student led conferences - these are not required but are available via times on the sign up genius posted on each grade level facebook page. Don't delay in getting your spot now!
Additionally this week we will begin campus tutorials for students in need of additional assistance. We view tutorials as a way to provide additional scaffolds and supports. It is important to explain to learners that extra help is a positive thing. Each of us has strengths in different areas. Teachers have sent home invitations for this and each teacher tutors at a time that works best for their schedule. Please return your forms ASAP and if you have questions don't hesitate to ask your child's teacher for more information.

Staff Spotlight
This week the spotlight is on Mrs. Kirby, one of our newest members of the PSA family. Here is what she says about herself:
My name is Cathy Kirby and I am thrilled to join the Prestwick famiLE this year! I graduated from Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Science in Education in May 1997. In my 22 years as an educator in both Irving ISD and Coppell ISD, I have been fortunate to teach a variety of age groups. As a classroom teacher, I have worked with students from kindergarten up to 4th grade. I have also served as a campus gifted and talented specialist working with students from kindergarten to 5th grade. My goal to teach 5th grade has finally been realized and I truly look forward to sharing my passion for language arts with my students as I have been an avid reader pretty much since I could physically hold a book on my own!
I live in Lewisville with my husband, Brett, and our son who is going into 8th grade. As the youngest of six children, I have a large extended family and we spend as much time together as possible. It's usually loud when we're all together but almost always fun! Outside of school, I enjoy reading, music, and keeping up with TCU athletics, particularly football. Go Frogs!
