Principal Update:

Dear Dawson Community,

Dawson prides itself on providing a safe learning environment for its students. An emerging national concern is the inappropriate use of the Internet and online gaming by students. This problem has the potential to be harmful, and we ask your support in assisting us with this challenge. On March 6, 2019, I have invited the Worcester District Attorney's Office to give the students in Grades 3-5 a presentation on cyber safety, cyberbullying and bullying. On March 8, at 9:00 in the library, the Worcester District Attorney's Office will have a parent presentation on the following topics:

-Bullying/Harassment Laws

-Bullying and Cyberbullying Defined

-Existing Laws

- Emerging and Existing Technology

-Protecting your digital footprint

-How to keep yourself safe while using today’s technology

As a parent and educator, I am excited to learn more about these topics, and I invite you to come to this hour presentation to educate yourself on safety for your children.

2019 Read Across America Week Schedule

Tuesday, February 26: Crazy Sock Day - Wear crazy or mismatched socks.

Wednesday, February 27: Literacy Character Day - Dress as your favorite character from a book.

Thursday, February 28: Green Grinch Day - Wear as much green as possible.

Friday, March 1: Red, Black and White attire - or dress up like the Cat in The Hat. Community members will be reading to each class, and every student will sign a Reading Pledge during lunch to hang up at the front entrance.

You're never too old, too wacky, too wild,
To pick up a book and read with a child.
You're never too busy, too cool, or too hot,
To pick up a book and share what you've got.

In schools and communities,
Let's gather around,
Let's pick up a book,
Let's pass it around.

There are kids all around you,
Kids who will need
Someone to hug,
Someone to read.

Come join us March 2nd
Your own special way
And make this America's
Read to Kids Day.

Attendance Matters

Every School Day Counts: Research confirms that showing up for class matters. Students cannot benefit from investments in high-quality instruction and more engaging, rigorous curriculum unless THEY ARE IN SCHOOL. Did you know? Missing 10% if school puts students at risk of academic failure.

Please be mindful of your child's absences, tardies, and dismissals.

On June 1, 2019, we will be having our first Holden Elementary School Golf Tournament! This will be a fundraiser for each of the 3 elementary schools. The tournament will be held at The Woods of Westminster Golf Course in Westminster. There will be golf and dinner after. To start off each school is looking to get 48 golfers or 12 teams of 4. The price will be $125 for golf and dinner.
